PC Build

I know what you mean. Whole episodes of Dr Who have been filmed in that cooler :cowboy_hat_face:

Yeah I figured 32gb of RAM would be the min soon, However the build is up-gradable so 64gb of RAM in the future wont be hard to achieve. Originally i had 2 sticks of 16gb each RAM but due to availability when I purchased I ended up with 4 sticks of 8gb each and saved $10 too!

I built with recommended DCS and X Plane specs in mind and I believe the 2080 will be good for the foreseeable future, even with the 3080 coming soon,

AS for the M.2 drive, the 500gb p1 cost half as much as the 250gb evo.

AS for the processor the I7 should be good but I can still upgrade to the I9 in the future if for some reason the I7 becomes obsolete

VULCAN is right behind the corner for XP and DCS so that should help to off-load our CPUs.

First my first time ever building a pc this was easy. Booted right up first time. Now comes the fun part. Downloading DCS.

I do have one question. I only installed my m.2 ssd when I hook up my 2.5 ssd can I just plug in the SATA cables and be good or will I have to raid configure it?

Just plug it in. For a raid you would need two disks of the same type. And even then the benefit is questionable. On desktops, this is something to tinker with when bored.

Much more important are backups. It‘s a common misconception that a raid array is a backup. Really it‘ll just provide more speed or more availability, both of which you do not need.

That’s what I thought but I wanted to make sure

LOL…I’m pretty sure my PC has a feature that tells me to go away and not tinker with it when bored.

I use RAID1 on my data drive (dual 2TB HDD) for the redundancy. Got bit once by a failing disk, lost a lot of photos I took as a kid with my first and second digital cameras.

And as you says - it’s not a backup. Which is why it hosts the local folder for my MS OneDrive, which is a backup. I also copy it over the LAN to the server PC which originated as a backup server for all the family computers (dual 4TB HDD, Raid1).

Just thought I’d share a practical use case - it’s another thing to manage, that not everyone would be prepared or willing to take on - so not a everyday user feature other than tinkering as you say!

Did that come with your PC or did you have to Purchase??

I purchased it that way…they took one look at my billing info, saw who I was, and added it, no fee!

There is a similar cautionary sign on the stairs to my attic. :hushed:

Speaking of attic.
How are you? Better or pretty good?

Thank you for asking. :slightly_smiling_face: I’m feeling much better. Its been a month since I got the neck brace off. I can definitely feel the injury when using a VR headset, as I cannot twist my neck as much without some discomfort, but not pain. But overall it is much improved. Final (:crossed_fingers:) appointment with the neurosurgeon next week–“flex and extension” X-rays–and that should be it.

½ second of not thinking; 3+ months of paying for it. :grimacing:
