Headset came in. Clarity and FOV are amazing. Tuning/setup wasn’t too bad particularly with all the guides out there. It’s also a hell of a lot easier to bounce between VR and monitor, and not having to worry about the headset disconnecting from DCS if I set it down for a couple minutes.
Right now I’m just struggling with two things:
The face pad does not work with my face at all. It’s too flat, I can’t get the headset tight enough, and my eyballs are nearly touching the lenses.
I can’t get OBS footage that’s as clear as what I used to get on my Quest 2.
Thank You. Testing will resume after work. I had a hell of a frustrating day yesterday. After my VR failure, the rudder pedals started acting up. They are not recognized by IL2 FB but all my other sims have not problems with them. This cost me the rest of the evening. @Clutch CONGRATS on the new toy! Remember that Rome was not built in a day. Peel the layers slowly… by this time next week, you will be in love with it.
IL-2 has got a limit to the number of controllers that it can keep track of. It will recognize if you swap out your joystick for a new one and offer to transfer the assignments, but if you switch controllers too many times, the config file won’t be able to recognize more… Yeah, I know… But it’s an easy fix, deleting a config file, that I can’t remember right now. I will look it up for you. Unfortunately you need to assign your controls again.
Thanks to you again. I will do anything that does not involve a re-install. I tried to delete stuff but I could not figure out what to delete. When I was about to delete the whole game, I decided to cool my jets and go watch TV. Not a good night… But that is PC gaming.. Sometimes you get the Bear and sometimes the Bear gets You.
So it looks like my unit shipped with the 11mm comfort foam, but upgrading to 15mm isn’t going to do much for me since I have an 18mm gap on either side of the temples
Anyway, anyone got tips for recording good footage/streaming with Pimax and OBS? I used to get great footage on my Q2 but no matter what I do my Pimax footage is low resolution.
Got home and fixed my IL2 in about 1 minute. Thanks! Just not sure about the openvr_api.dll. I put it into the game (yes, i backed up the original) and the game would not start. I put it back to original and then started the game in open composit. Now it works… I’m not sure what is going on there… My install works is all I can say. Oh and by the way, it looks AMAZING.
I have no idea how, but I must have accidentally managed to order a Pimax Super Micro OLED headset, because a package is winding its way northbound to me, as I write this… Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
Ok, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
From what I understand there are some VR utilities one can use to check a new headset for dead pixels, mura, FoV, etc. Anybody have any experience with this..?
Congratulations! I hope you have an amazing experience with it. I really need to take a deep breath and try my Crystal Super 50 PPD again. I’m sure that some of my issues were down to settings. Pimax has also continued to refine their software.
I hope you love it. If its your first Pimax, you will be blown away with the Image Quality and FOV. Cant wait to hear your thoughts!

Yes Sir, yes you do. Things change all the time.
Today my VR Rock inserts have arrived for my Quest. Cant wait to get home.
I fired up my Super this morning to try with MSFS2024 using the updated Pimax Play and firmware updates. The picture is stunningly sharp, but it’s still just not quite fluid enough (for me). I’ll give it another go with DCS later today. I’m thinking I need a 5090 to make it shine, but I’m not quite ready to spend that kind of money to upgrade from a 4090.
I don’t mind buying a 90 card, but it has to last me awhile. My PC is not quite two years old, so I would like to get another year, maybe two out of it before I start thinking about upgrading.
Yes, and it still doesn’t perform as well as the Quest 3 using Virtual Desktop..and degrading the image quality kind of defeats the point of the Super to be honest.
I now need to decide if I want to sell it or hold on to it and wait until I get my next PC, which will probably be a year or more away.
