So I will ask a stupid question, I might have gotten a gift from my GF and that would mean I can get a new PC. I don’t need a GPU and the HDDs/SSDs… only the case, CPU+cooler, RAM and MoBo. I have noticed the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X as a starting point- I like to start from the CPU…
Is it a good idea?
Taking back the CPU and swapping it with a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
I think the X3D architecture is more important than the processor type.
For heavy multi-core workloads, the 16-core option would be better.
If you don’t know, then you’re not running multi core workloads. This is the kind of stuff that makes you wait a long time for your Desktop PC to finish a calculation. So you would spend a lot of time in task manager to gaze at CPU core loads.
May I say something? I was in the same situation recently. After I spent a lot of time looking at the differences between CPUs. The end was clear: R7 9800X3D or R5 9600X. Why only those two? Because a 9600X is a powerful CPU for a very good price, and 9800X3D is the best for a relatively good price, much lower than in the recent past.
Yes 4 120mm Fans.
Three in the front, and one in the back.
Re: the cooler - yeah, I had a massive Noctua, but I’ve had a water cooler for a little while and I must admit it’s superior. Especially with the airflow + over pressure that I’ll have with this case…
With the board you have chosen you can still upgrade to the next generation of AMD CPUs as the upcoming CPU’s still use the same socket. The 7800X3D is a very good CPU. It runs a little hotter than the 9800X3D and is a bit slower but I would say it’s negligible when gaming on a monitor.
Something I did take in consideration.
My current PC is running on the same HW (bar a RAM upgrade and a couple of GPUs) since 2012. About time it gets some rest. Will save it as a mule in case something else goes horribly wrong.
Been a Signal user for a long time but it finally picked up traction last year.
Now I have friends groups, family, the org I volunteer with and groups with work colleagues on Signal.
So I’m setting up a Matrix account… gotta stay ahead of the curve / convenience
The new PC has arrived, I fished it out of the box yesterday and cleaned up from the shipping packing (A very thorough and well thought out job) and set up for today’s transplant.
If all is well I will finally try DCS on a modern machine. Fingers crossed!
Okay, it’s impressive.
I know probably there are people here with much better machines, but my last PC I assembled myself for the Closed Beta release of Elite Dangerous… That was a long time ago.
So the jump in performance is… Stunning.
I’m truly happy. This is a new way to experience everything.
Very very decent.
I don’t plan spending more money now for a good while (well not on gaming stuff anyways) but this machine has now power and potential for future upgrades.
Yeah, DCS is not too much HW demanding. I was able to run it on my 2019 PC: R7 3700X, X570, 32GB DDR4, and RX 5700XT 8GB at the 1440p high-details without any issues.
