Scale Modellers, lets talk :)

Just ordered one of these. Excited to have my first new RC plane in several years. It’s also a much nicer looking model than anything I’ve had before.

Its here and most of the assembly is done! Gonna add a coat of Minwax Polycrylic Satin Finish tomorrow to protect the nice details and then just need to buy a battery and do the final control surface set up.

Hnnng I love Mustangs.

I’ve been cracking away at the CH-46E. Made the mistake of getting an entire interior/exterior photoetch set. I’ve hit a bit of a snag with the fuselage halves not completely closing once the interior parts are placed.

That the Academy 1/48 kit?
Eduard etch?
Won’t the halves close because of the metal parts are wider, or that they make the bulkheads thicker?

Yep, the Academy kit. Eduard’s Big Ed set. The issue seems to be somewhere between the bulkheads and the forward 1/4 of the bay floor, but those parts are stock Academy with no extras. After furious filing I got the gap down to about 3mm but it’s still wide enough to be a nuisance.

Yeah… I have the KV-107 version in my stash. I haven’t heard of any fit issues. 3mm is quite a lot for a rather modern kit.

I was thinking that too, but on every brand except Tamiya I consistently have fuselage fit issues on the bottom front, so it could be user error.

I have a B36 kit that I’ve stalled on because the gap in the fuselage is about 5mm. It’s an older kit and I’ve tried all sorts to make it warp back. Tied loads of elastic bands to it and left it in very hot but not boiling water. It’s still not close but its better.

You need to see this.

The poor chap passed away and it got sold on.

Always good to see a new Tammy release! I hope they will do the F-4E as well.

I’ve got a fantastic-looking Zoukei-Mura F-4J that I need to build…when I got it I thought I was going to build it half a year ago but apparently not

What Tamiya brings to the table is excellent parts fit, even if there are fewer options like flaps/slats/probes and meh decals.

I have 2 flights in with this plane now, and its a sweet flier. Its a bit faster than I’m used to, but I’m adjusting.

Still working on convincing a camera man (son, usually in school when I fly) or camera woman (wife, seen enough of my toy planes) to come for a flight.

Gosh I miss doing that stuff…

I really need to commission you to build me a Tomcat @B12. When I’ve got some spare money we should talk about that.

I’ve also been eyeing up an Oshkosh HETT kit as well but my wife has basically said no to that.

Nice!
I hope they do an E.

I put the ships on hold because painting them cost me too many nerves.

Instead, I started with this KW.

The next project is a Pave Hawk.
Does anyone know the best way to bend the rotor blades to make it look realistic?
