Such a cool aircraft!
I wonder if the door could be jettisoned, or maybe the canopy? Opening that door against the airflow was probably not the preferred way of escaping…

Darn I read something Chuck Yeager said about it. He liked that plane- despite its shortcomings.

He did. I remember that from his biography ”Yeager”.

So reading about it, but no first hand accounts, it seems like the doors had an emergency release hinge that would make it open the other way, literally jettisoning the door and allowing the pilot to “simply tumble out”, simply being in quotes as it was heavily dependant on the aircraft attitude…

Another thing was a handle (radiator control?)on the left side making it better to bail out from the right side.

All of this from the Internet so has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Door works with plenty of clearance.

I did have to widen the stowed width by 3" so I could line up the stick and pedals and still have room on the right.

Need to mount the mouse and keyboard next.

No that is not the final cushion either.

Looks great!

My cushions came from my wife’s back patio furniture, “temporarily” (about a year ago…). She’s very patient. Looks like yours is as well!

I approve of the pocket holes! Have you got a Kreg screw jig? I want one…

Yeah I bought one last year. It was well worth the investment. At least for those of us who do and redo things.

Smashing work! Looks phenomenal AND solid!

If by solid you mean heavy as f… real heavy, yes.

I highly recommend free castoring wheels, looks like you’ll need 6x. Take it from experience!

Perhaps a bit of plywood hinged half way down?

So, resurrecting this, any Obutto owners in here? I’m realizing that I’ve hit the limit of expansion of my R3volution, and am trying to get ideas if anybody’s done any combining with Monstertech or any other component - based setups.

Don’t own the R3volution myself, but it seems to be similar tubular construction to my Next Level seat. I used u-bolts to attach some alumin(i)um extrusion to the seat so I could mount my flight stick and a few other odds and ends. Perhaps the same trick could work for you?

Edit: should have specified, using the Monstertech plates for the joysticks. Also the extrusion is repurposed Monstertech desk mounts (the actual extrusion is expensive here)

Yes, I own an Obutto Revo. I’ve not done any direct bolting to it in terms of monster tech mounts/aluminum extrusion, but I have ‘evolved’ it. I removed the front wheel/desk arm mount cage…thing, and set it up on a wooden platform that both supports the seat/seat frame with it’s now missing front cage, and raises it to a comfortable desk height. I’ve retained the center stick mount for my Virpil Warbrd, and the right most mount for mouse use. Throttle mount has been replaced with a wooden stand that holds throttle, keyboard, etc.

This thread reminds me I never updated my simit thread from over a year ago; will try to get to that tonight with pics.

@Troll 's brother from another mother

That sim pit is obviously broken though, because he appears to be pushing for powah.

Awesome pit!
Using tactical gloves…while flying in his boxers, though…
