Show us your sim pit!

Updated my computer room in the basement. Cut a hole in the wall towards a storage area under the stairs. Gained a square meter floor space which was much needed . Also painted the walls.

Cable management took close to two hours but well worth it. Really nice to get all computer stuff and cables away from view and into the other room.

That is awesome! Almost looks artistic! I’d hide some neon or RGB lighting in that little room under the stairs … would look cool in a darkened gaming room.

Good idea :slightly_smiling_face: I have homeassistant hooked up and ready. I have 2 hue play behind the monitor already though. Maybe a hue iris tucked in under the stairs.

I have an Obutto Ozone. More or less stock except I took my jigsaw and “modified” my acrylic desk :stuck_out_tongue:

This summer if I have time, I’ll build a plywood console around the left side of the chair to mount my throttle and button box.

Just a little “mod” to my screens. I only fly in VR now. In oder to make these usable again i put these “feelers” on.

I cut little squares from the hard plastic side of velcro strip. I made them small enough so they dont block the led lights. They are still very easy to find.

I put one in every center button. In just an hour, my hands are moving a lot quicker to find these buttons.
A free mod that made a big difference to me. As you can imagine, this took all of ten minutes to do.
What do you think?

That’s pretty bloody brilliant.

Make me think… I could do something like this.

now that i have my CNC mill, i was looking at the heritage plans…
dont have the spitfire, dont really fly a lot of fixed wing at all…
but still want to make this cockpit so badly…

whilst i’ve been away doing other things
i also managed to put some time into designing a new simpit…

i’m afraid the missus might have a thing or 2 to say if i try wheeling this into the lounge room…

so in the mean time, i built a dash & am working on the MFD’s TEDAC & other panels …
design/concept

from vision to reality

primer, then paint

joystick bases (butchered)

& grip placement

front dash panels & MFD faces

backlighting & planning

we’re actually only doing sets of 3, this was an early picci, before i realised what i was doing… :upside_down_face:

prepping for custom strip PCB placement

MFD & TEDAC custom PCB strips (older version pics)

laser etching the button faces

MFD exports completed (3x 9.7" screens, slightly larger than 1:1)

eventually I will replace the main screen with something larger, but for the time being, this will do
(I also need to build some type of DIY TrackIR type solution)

working EUFD

panel frame sets

dash upper

finalising a lot of the PCB stuff as we test & verify our circuits are valid… :grimacing:
slowly starting to begin wiring things up, but its hard to not go rampaging forwards when you have to wait for parts

That is absolutely incredible @gadget

it isn’t really, it’s simply a temporary solution to my intended desitination
which is a full tandem pit
2D CPG & VR pilot
I’m still tossing up how to do the CPG’s main screen…
not sure whether to do a DIY track IR solution or go ‘full retard’
& do a 270 wrap around screen like the warthog project (now that pit IS incredible)
but you know what they say…

How would you go about setting up DCS for two people in that dual-cockpit setup?

Two PCs running DCS, one for each player, and a third one running a server and you connect over the internet? Or can you do some kind of LAN thing with DCS?

2 PC’s min (obviously)
front seat is 2D, utilising some sort of DIY track IR that i havent looked into in depth yet. full CPG simpit up front with the 3 triple screens & main monitor/screen
rear seat is VR for flying…all switches etc, but no requirement for working screens etc.
the either MP or just host it on one of the PCs, probably front seat
if i upgrade one of the PCs at some point, then the older unit can be retained as a mission server.
also flight control in the front seat might be very simplistic, as not really reqd (unless an emergency)
so probably use an old MS flight stick or even an old saitek x52 i have.

I would think with the importance of the HMD being paramount in aiming the gun on an Apache, VR for both seats would be the only viable way. I dunno though, how can you implement an HMD on a wrap around in DCS?

until the varja aero is at a cost point where I can get them for a simlar price as other consumer models…
CPG is in 2D, the 3 MFDs/TEDAC can put out 2048×1536 each…
i spend most of my time heads down, unless the driver calls “My line of sight…”
slave, lase, store, “DESLAVED” !
BRRRRRTTTTT (i dont like getting in too close - invaraiably i end up getting a facefull of something nasty)
(but i do concur @WarPig - I also WANT the CPG in VR, but optimally AR in both seats)

Nor nearly the commitment as you gadget, but perhaps something to be gleaned here.
