Silica, New RTS/FPS from Bohemia Interactive

Dear Silica community,

Another week and another minor update has arrived. This time, the focus lies on improvements to Harvester pathfinding and movement and unit direct control to RTS where the Commander can select a single unit and switch into it, while not leaving the role.

Here’s the complete changelog:

  • Added: Unit Direct Control to RTS*

  • Added: Player tags for friendly units

  • Improved: Harvester navigation graphs**

  • Improved: Wheeled vehicles (inc. Harvester) no longer do many-point turns to turn around when there is room

  • Fixed: If the player limit was not changed in Server setup, the maximum value was used

*Direct Control - Allows you to control units from the Commander’s perspective directly (switch into them) without leaving the role.

**Harvester navigation graph - Improves AI pathfinding for Harvesters where they no longer take strange detours etc.

We are bringing you another update, this time we focused on quality-of-life improvements. We hope you will find them helpful.

Here’s this week’s changelog for update 0.7.21:

  • Added: Voice barks for various events (such as Harvester under attack etc)

  • Added: Pressing Spacebar when a voice bark event occurs moves the camera to its location in Commander view

  • Added: Support for storing/recalling structures on 1 to 0 selection keys in Commander view

  • Added: C key cycles through all HQs/Nests (starting with nearest) in Commander view

  • Added: Double pressing the selection hotkey moves the camera to its location in Commander view

  • Improved: Visibility for Commander in Badlands by reducing fog strength and not showing clouds

  • Fixed: Fog of War correctly reset after the match (no more dots of revealed areas)

  • Fixed: Teleporter cooldown did not tick down while other players were using it

  • Fixed: Changing team/role while in direct control of a unit as Commander deleted it

  • Fixed: Pressing F did not leave direct control as Commander on clients

  • Fixed: Chat log replayed after the end of the round when people tried to send messages

We’re here with a brand new update that includes some significant gameplay changes. First and foremost, the addition of the Outpost may be built far from the base and serves as a hub for remote operations (allows the construction of buildings around it and also serves for respawn and infantry loadout, albeit only up to the Marksman). Additionally, a Turret and Heavy Turret have been added for defense for the human teams, this allows a parallel to the Alien defenses. The Turret, being available at Mark I, allows for decent defense against the light vehicles, though a tank makes short order of it. The Heavy Turret is more expensive, available at Mark III, and fires projectiles powerful enough to damage tanks, though is also not as accurate.

Here’s the complete changelog:

  • Added: Outpost building, for remote ops (requires Mark I)

  • Added: Turret, for base defense (requires Mark I)

  • Added: Heavy Turret, for base defence (requires Mark III)

  • Added: Secondary turrets can now turn on the free look (eg: Hover Tank MG)

  • Fixed: Construction sites may no longer be destroyed via impact damage

  • Fixed: Vehicles stopping on tiny crystals on impact

Another update is here, this time focused on turret balancing and, most importantly, the addition of air units in a preview form - via the Arena game mode (on maps other than Combat Dome).

Silica is 20% off on steam at the moment.

I’ve asked for it for Christmas from the kids…which means obviously I’ll be buying it for and then thanking them for it :joy:
