That looks very SciFi
The Varjo Aero has some issues with the 4090 GPU, it seems and the Varjo Base software will have you believe that the Display Port isnāt connected to the GPUā¦ This problem has occured during my several months of no simming as it wasnāt an issue before. Win update messing with things? Varjo Base update? Varjo is blaming Nvidia, but a solution is to power up the headset after you start the PC, booting windows and Varjo Base. I already had the Steam lighthouses on a Philips Hue Smartplug so I could power them up remotely. I just added another smartplug for the Varjo headset powersupply and linked them both to the same switch. But that switch was on the wall, not in the SimBox, so I had to do something about that.
Some 3D modelling and printing later and I had this nifty little thing.
Just need to add some double sided tape to the back of it and stick it somewhere on the SimBox side panels.
The VR text on the front is 3D printed, face down onto the printer bed. If you look closely you can see some visible gaps between the extruded linesā¦ @Fridge, do you get this on your Bambu too?
No. The first layer on the my X1C is fairly consistent and I have not seen those for a while. I have seen similar gaps between the walls and the inner fill which can look like that (spacing issues between the lines).
What filament are you using? I would suggest maybe bumping up the first layer extrusion to 102 or 105%? It looks like the either the filament has varying thickness (the diameter of the filament goes wider and thinner) or the flow on the pieces where the printer head is going fast isnāt enough to keep up. That could be a filament melting temperature issue (ie: itās not quite hot enough to flow well when the head is moving fast).
Bambu Tough PLAā¦ Could it be wet filament? Maybe I should put them in the dryer.
Do you use a gluestick on the bed?
Huh. IF it;s Bamboo filament it should have all the details it needs to handle it properly. When I used non-Bamboo filament, i got little inconsistencies that I could account for by tweaking.
It could be wet fulfillment. That would affect its flow properties. I am pretty paranoid about that and store all of mine in ziplock bags with dry packs. And in my AMS I have a few extra dry packs tossed in there.
As for the glue sticks - it depends on the bed. For the one that came with the printer, I had to use glue as it was somewhat difficult to get the print off of the bed without it. Which was backwards to what I was doing previously where I added glue to help adhesion, in this case I added glue to help removal. It is possible that the bed plate is getting old? Maybe it is wearing down?
Iāll dry them and see. The dessicant puches in the AMS are both hardned now, which probably means I should swap them out, yeah?
Doubt it. I havenāt been printing that much.
I think so. I have my few extra pushed into this spot:
I didnāt print the white boxes, just pushed a few of the silica packets into those spots. I did find a small humidity sensor/display to push into that spot as well. The link should show what i mean.
@Troll how do you find the MPS-1 seat treating you after almost two years? Is it only more suitable for taller people?
Itās nice! Seems to hold up just fine. Itās comfortable and Iām not looking to replace it.
I wouldnāt say so, no. My daughter is 167cm and she sits comfortably in it. Although her legs are about as long as mine, and Iām 186cm.
Thanks!!
Iām only 175, and definitely donāt have long legsā¦ Maybe putting on my hf8 pad will help.
It has been my experience that many (most?) combat cockpit seat are not all that comfortable. Maybe you should replace it with a seat that āgjĆør at rumpa blir nummenā after about 30 minutes.
True, but people usually get paid to sit in those seats.
This is a seat that Iām paying to sit in, so I get to decide how comfy it should be
The SimBox is getting an update. The Centralkalkylator (computer) wil be upgraded and with that the alu panels of the computer enclusure will be adjusted to accommodate Dzus quarter turn fastners.
Why? Really? If you have followed this thread this far you should know better than asking me that!
It looks cool! Itās aviationishā¦ Right, @smokinhole?
Anybody have issues with pulling the 12VHPWR cable like that?
I bought a sleeved Corsair cable that I knew was compatible with my PSU, but the damned cable is really stiff.
Itās long enough to be routed around the cooler but itās not pressed against the cooler when routed this way, so Iām thinking itās okā¦?
So, cool stuffā¦
I have yet to install the seatbelts on my Monstertech seat. Iāve missed them. Strapping into the seat elevates the immersion.
Browsing ebay I recently found a guy selling military surplus gear in Greece. He had a lot of 3 belt buckles from the Hellenic Airforce.
One buckle had been taken out of the sealed bag, but two were still sealed.
I bought them and he sent an extra buckle as a gift. This buckle had been damaged in storage. Looks like it has sustained damage from moisture as the steel parts had corrosion and the grease had hardened.
I opened the sealed bags and had my QA inspector check them out.
The two sealed buckles are a slightly lighter color than the one that had been opened.
The package lable says Martin Baker. The buckles are made by Autoflug in Germany.
The seller think they are spares for Mk. 4 or 5 seats for the Mirage F1CG. Anybody know anything about these things?
Anyway, me being me, I had to see if I could fix the damaged buckle so I took it apart and soaked it in WD-40 and cleaned it up with a tootbrush.
It definitely looks salvageable! Iām considering swapping the springs for some lighter ones as the installed ones are pretty stiff.
The new SimBox Centralkalylator panels arrived today!
The panel at the bottom of the pic will become a keyboard tray.
Adding Dzus quarter-turn fastners was a new experienceā¦
Had to make 3D printed holders for the spring and that meant some trial and error.
But here we are!
Looks really aviationish!
Theyāre brilliant for anything you need to undo and do up again more than infrequently. And they definitely look the part!
