Careful here. I used to live in South Florida and it’s a shame but seems only the idiots make the news.
And as far as folks getting vaccinated in the US, doesn’t seem political. If you look at the stats the largest populations of people not getting vaccinated is ethnic related.
Is that a case of choosing not to get vaccinated, logistical or other problems? If West Virginia sees a need to give younger people a financial incentive to get vaccinated then ethnicity doesn’t seem to be the problem when it comes down to wanting the vaccine.
That is incredible. Did the decision maker miss out on an education.
Wife got first shot (Moderna) two weekends ago. I got Pfizer last weekend. Whatever they have available I guess. We both had sore arms the next day … that’s it. Pretty incredible times we live in where these vaccines can be deployed so quickly. Quite a relief as I was scared as hell I’d bring something home to my wife from my day to day dealings with idiots.
Visited my AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) today. I still haven’t heard back from the FAA about getting my medical back - so until then, I’m grounded. I did call Oklahoma City and actually managed to get a hold of a human that told me my case IS there and IS under review…so that is a huge relief. At least it isn’t still in the mail room.
Doc said I’m totally fine. I can even stop taking blood thinners (Xarelto in my case) and he suggested a low dose aspirin regime if I wanted…but he said it wasn’t absolutely necessary. He said my DVT and PE were what would be called a “provoked” event - in that COVID (a virus with heavy clotting tendencies) was the instigating event. He said I would probably never have another DVT or PE…but if I did, I’d probably have to go on thinners for the rest of my life. So the goal is to obviously never have another one.
Lungs feel great - a few days ago I took up serious bike riding and running again. The results were…errrr…just basically what you’d expect if you took a few months off. I’ve got some work to do. ![]()
I cannot wait to get my medical back. I am so excited to get in the PC24 and get back to doing what I love to do. So now every day is this looking at the mailbox:

Thinking of you bud.
Ever try swimming? Best shape of my life was a twice-weekly swim, with a 1.5 mile swim every 6 months (quite boring actually but just to say I did it). At 52 (last time I had a pool available) my heartrate (never measured it in the morning, only during the annual flight physicals) was like 51+/-. And that’s all I did.
I’m rambling here but it is basically zero-impact and 30 minutes of hard sprinting (it’s efficient: kicks my arse quick) in the pool is like miles on the road. And you don’t sweat…errr, well you don’t notice it ![]()
Of course it helps to have a pool long enough around. We’re finally getting one here! No very long but long enough.
Hoping for good news for you.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you Chris. Hopefully they will get you back to flying soon.
I remember how frustrating it was when I wasn’t released to fly for 12 weeks after breaking my arm/wrist a few years ago. That happened between medicals so the FAA were never involved. I just didn’t fly until the Orthopedic Surgeon cleared me to return to work. It’s obviously a bit different in your case. I’m guessing IronMan 2022 is also your target now?
Also, couldn’t they send you off to school for your type without the medical under these circumstances? Maybe a problem as they class the sim as an airplane for certification purposes.
Hi Fellas,
May this year get us out of the muck. Good luck to all.
Here is a fun fact. The US ARMY decided to vaccine us all. Contractors, Soldiers, civilians… the LOT. Downtown was a mess and the civilians had to stand in line some for 6 hours to get 2 vaccines. The base had Johnson and Johnson so just one shot and I did not stand in line. My girlfriend had to go downtown and got both shots no problem.
Well Qatar uses an app to prove you are good to go. You cant go into a business, or a mall without showing your app with a Green square to prove you are good to go. Forget restaurants or bars. If you are vaccinated now you get a gold line around the green square.
Now guess what? The ARMY shots will not show up on the Qatar APP. So everywhere I go I have to show my green square and then argue about how I got my vaccination card and how I only needed one shot. Meanwhile my girl gets in anywhere cos she has the green with the gold…
These precious moments of my life…
I’m going to start up swimming this week as a matter of fact. I did a little a couple years ago for triathlon training…but I’m planning on ramping up all three (biking, running, swimming) over the course of the next few months. I think the longest I swam (duration) was only about 35 minutes though…during a sprint tri. I was terribly slow in the water. Not uncomfortable…just not very fast/efficient.
Yeah, I’m gonna stink when I get back to it in a month or so (been a 10+ year layoff). But, I figure all the thrashing will kick my butt sooner. Always seemed to take me a few times to get my form back.
I am going to TRY to flail my way through IM 2021. We’ll see. It is a short window to get into that condition. If I feel I’m minimally ready for it, I might give it a whirl. Just looking to finish it. So yeah…4 months to prepare. Not sure if it is possible…but worst case I’ll be getting fitter…
Hats off to you if you manage to pull that off. I wouldn’t wing it if you don’t feel absolutely ready.
Ever been in a Turkish prison?
Do you like Gladiator movies?
We stocked up on tests during our brush a few weeks ago; needless to say within our family (aunts/ uncles/ cousins), they’ve become currency.
Tested positive on a home test kit this morning. Our daughter was positive on tuesday, so it didn’t come as a surprise.
So far I’ve got a sore throat, light cough, fever and body aches. But my body has been aching for years, so… ![]()
Godspeed Troll.
Take care man!
