Some actual Flaming Cliffs 4 Confirmation

New modules will be downgraded versions of existing full fidelity modules. Like A-10A/A-10C.

There’s the link so y’all can actually believe me this time. Little bummed, was hoping for some new aircraft.

That sounds like a pretty terrible idea.

Definitely rather disappointing news, and rather puzzling in that nobody with a full fidelity module of a specific aircraft is going to bother with a FC level version of that same airframe. I can see how it would be a cheaper thing to produce as you can re-use 3D models and pits, plus all the flight models too. Still, as a person with every module in my virtual hangar, FC4 won’t be of any interest to me.

While disappointed, I am sure ED knows exactly what they are doing and I am sure they made this decision for a good reason.

I can’t be that negative. No offense intended.

I’ll be curiously awaiting development.

Yeah, doesn’t seem like the wisest decision, but it can’t hurt too much, at the very least. Just resources I wish were utilized better, is all.

Just to add a bit of levity

A significant number of customers might have requested it and it could be an ongoing model for future modules maybe…no problems here.

My guess is that with Persian Gulf and Hornet, ED is going to try and expand the customer base: as noted, FC4 will probably be reasonably cheap to do and it will make many models available for the new customer in one hit.

I can’t see why they’d do this for the existing customers so it must be a move to attract new ones.

Probably a move to attract new crowd with less pricey and easier to get into modules.

Well since the whole FC4 thing was somewhat of a supprise. Really no loss I guess. Although it was easy to let ones imagination run Wild with the possibilities. Oh well. Seems like that would pretty much confirm witch moduals are coming since excluding the a-10 there are only a few more moduals worth doing a lower fidelity, at least in my line of thinking.

Edit- would be cool to have the two seat variants of each of these moduals with mult capability. Might make me consider buying it. Still hoping

Actually it’s a good idea from marketing standpoint. Many people might feel intimidated by the full blown modules that simulate every switch in the cockpit. FC class planes might be something what SF series used to offer - quick and easy fun. May convert some folks to get into DCS.

I’m probably in the minority, but I’m ok with this. I bought the A-10C but traded it away, and haven’t bought any other full modules, and the F-18 is the only one I plan on buying (for now at least). I only have time to learn and stay proficient in one full DCS level module.

So if I can get a FC level F-16, AV8B, or M2000, sounds good to me…

Does this mean

F111 confirmed?

Pretty much

Yeah…like @Bearhedge and @damson have said…I don’t think we (over generalization) are necessarily the target audience for this. I think attracting more is better. Even civilian platform modules would be welcome to populate the world.

In my years helping out on the DCS Steam forum, Flaming Cliffs was always much more popular that people that talked about DCS a lot seemed to realize. There’s a time-to-spend-on-game wall that’s pretty easy to hit for most casual players.

As a re-packaging of existing assets it makes sense I guess. If it makes money for ED then it helps keep the lights on and let’s them make other more interesting things.

My bet for the ‘module lobotomy’ FC4 pack would be something like:

  • DCS: F-5E Tiger II
  • DCS: MiG-15bis
  • DCS: F-86F Sabre

…and then either the Hornet or maybe even the A-10C done as a FC version. I am unsure of the last one because it seems too soon to split the Hornet marquee market, and something like the Black Shark has a few too many systems to purely keyboard-foo with (i.e. PVI-800 etc).

I for one like this idea… thou I have purchased all of the modules and aircrafts, I don’t have the time I use to have for those study sims, when I do finally sit down to play a little, I tend to the less-study sim planes, like the ones from the FC series. It’s easier for me to just sit down, fly and fight for some fun, then call it a night. jmo
