Star Citizen

I tried Star Citizen during the free Invictus events. Well, it runs like crap on my system: Ryzen7 3700X w/ 32Gb RAM, and an RTX 3080. Could be my end, but either way, I doubt I’ll ever get the game. I’m on the side that feels negatively about its development cycle. Admittedly, as a fan of the old Wing Commander series, I’m interested in Squadron 42 but I’m not holding my breath for its release.

Anyway, until the next Invictus event…:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@apollon01 That is currently the most expensive package. IIRC back when Roberts started his crowdfunding push some of the ‘pledge’ amounts were insane. I am sure that there was a $10K option.

I posted this above, so rather than re-type it:

Star Citizen is a scam. Please don’t invest in it.

The correction would be that that is the most expensive package you can buy if you had nót already invested $10 000 in the game beforehand. If you did… Then you can buy the Legatus 2953 pack.

I’m currently down about €120 on an avenger for my security career and a golem for my industrial career. The game is great for providing a seamless world and for providing a platform to play with friends who are not as much into flying and systems. They can help by playing it as a FPS and by manning the turrets. We already had loads of fun on the PTU but the lack of depth in the economy and industry is a bit painful, never mind the slow development cycle for what will be a billion dollar game.

I knew that some of their packages were ‘extreme’ but WTF! That is nearly $100K in the local currency.

For that I would want Sydney Sweeny, wearing nothing but a smile, knocking on my door.

can you elaborate? or are you joking?

While I am trying too enjoy the game doing just what I consider a basic thing I fine extremely difficult to do.. I am trying to get my multitool to be used as a tractor beam. I finally found out the 2 pieces I need but then I threw down the tractor beam addon and I can not put it back in my inventory and I already logged out so I am guessing I will need to go back to the store to purchase another. totally frustrating..

Well I finally got my tractor beam working and I found another mission but when I goto the point where I was to pickup the item it was an ambush I think by AI. I ran the 1st time thinking it was NI but I went back and AI was there and shooting at me upon my retreat I crashed into debris and respawned back at the hospital.. this game is frustrating..

Well yes but these are 2 different games. I see Squadron 42 is nearly vaproware but Star Citizen is out and was wondering what most thought if it after all these years of supposed development..

I see little hope for S42..

I think SC is a cash grab, where the dev will continue to take money and drip out updates to keep its base happy. Interestingly, an opinion like mine opens one up to threats of violence and major flaming from its most ardent fans. I’m not mad that they spend buckets of their money on a game that has been in development forover a decade - it’s their money to spend. It’s the rabid responses you get if you share a negative opinion against the game or company that gets me. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I was a huge fan of the Wing Commander games and thought that Chris Roberts was a gaming visionary. However, my opinion of him has changed. Secretly, I would love to jump into the SC universe, but I refuse to spend my money on a game that seems like it will not be ready for at least another decade. I like the concept, but I don’t like the scheme or delivery.

As for S42, I would love for the game to be released, but I also have little hope in that happening.

I remember way back in 2012 someone posting on the intranet at work - (in reference to SC) if you want to waste your money. Put it in an envelope and mail it to me, I will put it to better use. If you want a game like that you can actually play now, buy Elite Dangerous.

The flame war that ensued got that particular bulletin board shut down for a month.

I am not joking. The Kickstarter was in 2012, they said the game would launch in 2014, but as soon as they kept getting more and more money, they just kept adding more and more bloat to it, so much so it became evident that the goal was never to finish it, only to continue to milk the whales. This “game” will never be finished.

Yes, but the point I was trying to make was that what started this whole thing was the initial announcement, pitch, and kickstarter for Squadron 42. Star Citizen was supposed to be an extension of that first game.

The fact that the narrative has completely flipped, and we have videos showing virtual hot dogs instead of releasing Squadron 42 when it was promised in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024 has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Even worse given the folks I know who worked at CIG in Santa Monica at various points between 2014 and 2023.

Hence my remark from last year about how some people should never be allowed to be in charge of projects where nobody can tell them know.

But Microsoft learned that in 2001, and Hollywood learned that in 1999.

yes I seee what a big disappointment.. I am just playing since I did buy into the beginner ship for 45bucks.. I figured get something out of it.. I have been playing for a week but there is really not much to it..

I mean I think I can jump around do deliveries and a few other mission types but far from what was promised I see..

I really have not kept up with what went on over the last decader or so but it seems it will never come to be.. Well it was a cool concept but never materialized..

All I ask of Squadron 42 is that it releases before Mark Hamil, who voice-acts in the game, dies.

And Gary Oldman.

And then I went to see if Malcolm McDowell was in this one, and the voice actor list is insane:

well so far the delivery missions are plauged by bugs making it almost impossible to complete.. not sure what I want to do with this game again shelf it for another year or two or try and play it..

My org leader is working still, so he’s not around to really do anything with the org, but I stay away from SC not from the bugs, but just “I’ll still update it, and then play it… sometime” more or less.

They were working for me when I tried them probably a few patches ago. It’s really cool and there’s not much like it but I cannot be dishonest… Loading and unloading the cargo by hand got tedious quite fast even with help of the cargo loading turret. The contracts were also very predictable it was just the same ones on a loop over and over.

Well I had installed Win 11 25H2 fresh install and SC seems to be working much better along with the 580.88 nvidia drivers..

I also adjusted the Graphics settings and found cloud setting which now they look much better. I tried it on the highest cloud setting they sure looked nice but was a stutter fest lol!! Guess I need to save my pennies and get the 5080..

I think I will be golden with my 265K @5.5ghz but the 4070 is lagging a bit in SC.. but found a balance so good for now but still would like to get a new GPU.. 5080 here I come well maybe…

I had since updated the vid drivers to 590.64 and run 50% Rez in the G2 and am getting 60fps in hangar. I lowered some texture settings as well.

From what I googled it appears I could use a new GPU maybe a 5080 since I need to lower the rez of the G2 down.. but I am unsure how much better a 5080 will be over my 4070Ti.. maybe 30-40% I will need to think about this..
