At 16 bucks? Yeah thats worth it.

My main point of contention is “Can we now rebind our keys” ?

There’s some simple things that this game does still wrong… or at least a bit so.

Eh, small niggles and a small price to pay for "it’s a motherlovin X-Wing! In VR! "

Hope nothing Joy2Key couldn’t solve

I’m more about axis definition and so on…

It’s probably the 3rd most enjoyable gaming ride I’ve had since the pandemic started. As a point of reference the first was rediscovering BMS and the second was the new ARMA “Prairie Fire” addon. Get it just for the campaign alone. Take the time to “talk” to the characters and follow the story. I know it sounds like I am about to pick a fight. I promise I am not. But we all approach things differently… Squadrons isn’t Elite and it isn’t a sim. It’s a twitch shooter. Play it with a controller and save yourself hours of frustration.

I’m currently playing through the campaign as we speak. I’m 7 or 8 missions in, which is roughly half the campaign? I had no problems setting it up with my CH HOTAS and VR. I’m using a profile for the HOTAS that divides the stick, throttle, and pedals as 3 separate input devices, and it was no problem setting it up in-game. I would say, as compared to the original X-W/TIE games, this campaign feels more like a Battlefield campaign, as it mostly serves as a tutorial for the multi-player, but it’s still good. Definitely worth it, even if just for the VR experience alone!

I have to agree with @smokinhole I tried a pretty late patch, but flying this with an extended stick feels like an old arcade setup: very unresponsive and unnatural.

Squadrons is as underwhelming with a good HOTAS as it is overwhelming in VR (and it really is).

The story, whild not as long or complex as the old games, does really make you feel like you are in the SW universe / a movie. Just whelming I guess

I guess I’m a rarity, but I love it. I’d buy it twice.

I have had no problem setting my X-52 up and, for a space game, it feels perfectly “natural”.

My only gripe with the setup is the interface where it can’t quite decide what interface standard to display and it will switch from displaying keyboard commands to joystick commands, but you get used to it.

The campaign is IMO awesome. It’s one of the few Star Wars games where I have actually empathized with the Empire and didn’t see them as faceless minions to be pew pewed. There were even a few moments where I got a bit of a lump in my throat when you felt on the eve of a climactic event. Very well done I thought.

Of course it looks unbelievable in VR. Peeking over your shoulder at the targeting computer or watching the hull of a star destroyer flash by underneath you is one of those moments where you feel like you are actually IN Star Wars perhaps for the first time. But even the little details are enough to give you a full fledged nerd on. I spent 5 minutes one day just
looking at the TIE pilots beat up leather gloves.
There’s a lot of love in those details.

For $16, it’s a no brainer for me. It’s at least worth a try.
