Thanks @smokinhole. I really appreciate that insight. Sounds like it could be for me.
Can i just gush about how absolutely fricking awesome the city of Neon is. Im having so much fun there
The good news is I find it less glitchy than most of their RPGs at this stage post-release. So I think a year of updates is going to really polish it up.
I too have noticed the tendency of multiple NPCs to talk at once like they’re unaware you’re listening to another. It’s like having 3 friends all text you at once wanting immediate feedback!
Too bad you can’t have a “busy signal” on texts so people know if you’re not going to reply for a bit…
2.61gb update on xbox
I am officially stuck.
At some point on returning to New Atlantis I got arrested for contraband (stolen artifact). This put me on the longest, most grueling side Quest I have ever been on in any RPG. It’s just layer upon layer upon layer of what feel like boss robot fights followed by fleet battles. I’ve put 20 hours of actual gameplay trying to get through it. But now I am at 5% hull with a dozen enemies and turrets to get through. I thought auto save would get me back to a point where I could just beg off to New Atlantis and improve my ship but no such luck. The last autosave is halfway through this quest. Great game! Time to walk away. Someone tell me how it ends!
I think im halfway through that one now, crimson fleet?
I had to walk away for a little bit on that one because it was getting seriously intense. Amazing quest line though.
I’m currently working for a corporation in Neon and im a bit stuck as well until my lock picking skill increases a bit
I still can’t make head nor tail of how to modify my ship either. Bolted bigger weapons on but not changed the layout.
Yeah that one! On reddit it sounds like the only way through for players with high hull damage is to cheat. Select the lowest difficulty and leave the pilot seat whenever shields get low. I hate doing that but the thought of replaying a certain, uhm, old ship sequence gives me a migraine.
I know I complain a lot but I truly do think the game is epic. But this Crimson Fleet sequence? A grrr-rind. And a little disingenuous. If you tell me we’re going to do x, then I’ll plan around x. But to do x, then decide to do y and then forced to do z—all on one ship with no opportunity for repairs is cruel. Halfway through (10 hours in) I was like, “I’ve done enough for the galaxy! Just give me my credits and let me get back to my cult on Jamison!”

I finished that quest at last. I’ve played entire games that were shorter and easier.
I’ve done this loads already. Heavily modified the original one and I have also seriously remodeled the better one I stole found recently. Doubled the number of engines, added some “wings” to make it look like the Alliance Chieftain and slammed a berth/observation deck on top with loads of windows.
When you say " I’d like to modify my ships " to the technician, you get a KSP like view and there’s some button mappings in the bottom right. For me on Xbox controller, it says (X) Ship builder. That one takes you to the “build” scene instead of the “upgrade” scene. Upgrade only lets you replace parts
It’s probably the E key on keyboard. Once in the ship builder, I find the controls quite natural, at least with the controller
One key bit of info (Thanks reddit!). There may be a point in the main story where you will need to modify your ship as part of the quest. The only way to do this (on XBOX) is to slide the camera so that your ship is not in view on the grid. Now, when you click the grid, you’ll have a list of parts that you can install.
Of all of the faction quest lines, the Ryujin Industries was the most entertaining for me. If you haven’t completed it yet, I won’t spoil the details. But lets just say it’s different from the typical cookie cutter questlines that are mostly run-and-gun. Ryujin Industries will require a ltitle planning and thought process and at the same time, some fun role playing dialog that could shape your character down the line.
Overall, Starfield is an intriguing game. The cutscene dialogue, IMO, is clunky and a buzzkill. We’ve seen better, but it is what it is. I’m at the point of working on my outposts and getting my mining on. I roam random planets and let my mind wander while discovering new locations. There is just so much unexplored content that it’s exciting and discouraging at the same time.
Occasionally, you gotta get your hands dirty.
Im going to try this on pc as well as i can only delete and undo stuff and change colours. I wonder if its because i use xbox controller perhaps?
Thanks @smokinhole
I’m doing that one now. Its fantastic!
Right, I’m off work for a week. Lets explore this universe a bit.
I’ve got about 30 hrs in now and I’m really starting to get into it. I’ve wasted about half that exploring planets and moons in the Sol system, though!
Finally went back to New Atlantis to find my parents, Tuvok and Kira, hanging out at the Lodge.
Im 45 or so hours in and feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface to be honest.
The beowulf is my favourite gun though. That thing rocks.
I’m currently in freestar space and just loving it.
Saw this in a Starfield facebook group. This guy just broke the internet with this ship build… or aircraft carrier.
What’s really the purpose, other than killing time being creative? Basically, Starfield is fast travelling point to point (for the most part). Maybe I haven’t utlized Starfield to it’s full extent.
It’s like building your own home in Skyrim or the settlements in Fallout 4.
The game doesn’t require it and you can totally enjoy and complete the game without doing much beyond the basics, but if you choose to sink a lot of time into the game here’s something more engaging than just radiant quests of the “go here, kill this, find that” variety.
Im over 60 hours into it and still havent touched an edge yet. I love the exploration part
