Starfield (2023)

25 hours in and I uninstalled. I tried to make it my cuppa but ultimately the improbabilities in the story became too hard to ignore. I think for people who possess the intelligence and imagination to explore and craft, it’s perfect. I lack both and could do neither.

Thats a shame. Its definitely got its faults. The story isn’t AMAZING but Bethesda never are good at that.

I’m 70ish hours into it, my wife is absolutely bored, but putting up with it. I’m still really enjoying it. I’m still not finishing many quests, doing bits and pieces then going off raiding things and making guns.

I have 58 hours in. By @Rhinosaurus measure of game worth, $1 for every hour played, then I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

I think this game is what you make of it. After 58hrs, I’ve done zero base building, very very minimal upgrading of weapons or space equipment. I’ve done zero ship building and have only upgraded some equipment here or there. I’ve done some exploring for plants and animals, etc, but haven’t gone out of my way. I’ve been mostly doing the main mission, large side stories (UC, Freestar, Crimson, Ryujin, etc.) and the small side quests. I think they are interesting enough. I like the gun battles with the Spacers, Ellipse people, etc. I’m more of a base clearer and looter type.

I have a lot of games on my plate (COD, BF, Rocket League, MX vs ATV Legends, ARMA 3) and with WRC coming out, I will have even less time. So, my aim is to get the main and main side quests done and then put it aside. Then working on minor side quests when I feel like it on some down time. I do not want to start an amateur mining operation or be a botanist.

That one started so meh, repulsive even and turned out wtfawesome. That last bit where you get to influence the outcome was a peak gaming moment for me. Superb. Perhaps the writing per se wasn’t top notch, but the very idea of the thing was very smart in my opnion.

It really was a good one

110+ hours logged. Level 50. I may be reaching my personal plateau (for now). All main and faction quests completed. Countless side quests and terminal missions. I’ve got a few mining outposts linked together. Decent fleet of ships. All, but 2 steam achievements, completed (reach max relationship with a companion and Level 100) It’s been a great game entertaining me while I travel. Gonna slowly ween off it until we see some DLC.

While engaged in a heavy space fight, Sarah just walks in front of me… :eyes:

Enjoying it. Some things annoy me compared to other Bethesda games. I mean how hard is it to have a proper map when on a planet. Surely tech has evolved to be able to do this.

The other thing is tissues, everywhere I go there’s tissues. What is it with modern spacefarers? Are they crying all the time? Is it allergies? Lots of coronaviruses? Or is it that modern space dudes are all 15 year old teenagers?

And finally hammers. I recently found my spaceship was encumbered with 30 (kg/mass) of hammers and 10 whatever’s of empty picture frames. I didn’t pick them up. It’s the mechanic of when you acquire/steal/takeover a spaceship, the entire contents get copied over. I then swapped back to my original ship and the “stuff” gets added to the hold. If you keep doing this, every loose item becomes a tribble.

I’m convinced there’s money in this and want to open a pound shop. Keets Mercantile. 5 sets of pliers for a quid.

Unlike Fallout 76, where all junk can be scrapped for resources that may be useful, Starfield is full of things that serve no purpose beyond being things you can interact with.

I did laugh at all the things that in F76 that are also here albeit looking different. Portable desk fans, microscopes, folders, pens and pencils, etc.

While some of that stuff may add to the atmosphere in ships and locations, I find myself selling them all whenever I acquire a ship.

It’s the Star Eagle the rangers gave me when I ran through their story, but I remodelled the thing a little and gave her some upgrades. It’s named “the Tiger that stalks the bamboo of the Stars”. Because why the gel not. There’s all kind of work benches aboard, spacious crew quarters and a cosy captain’s cabin. I don’t think I’ll ever want another ship.

Yeah im waiting for my pilot skill to be high enough to fly the absolute monstrosity sitting in my hanger. But the star eagle is my favorite ship so far

I broke 50 this afternoon. Got surprisingly few in combat and social, most in tech and science.

Same here.

Maxed out rifles, pistols, jumppack and gun mods and lock pick.

I am a bouncy shooty nightmare

heh I skiped the last one of lock pick, didn’t see it add anything. Put a fourth in the jetpack, and now I’m constantly breaking my ankles lol. The ones in shields mattered a lot to the spaceship combat, maxed that out.

I find myself doing a lot of the No Man’s Sky type of planetary wandering lately, so I’m dropping some points in zoology and botany. Space Darwin. Perhaps I should name my boat the Space Beagle  But it’s bad luck to rename a vessel.
