Strike Fighters 2 Complete Edition for 50% Off

I’m with you P-funk. I’m all in on SF2 again. I keep thinking I’m going to fly and grab some screens, but I’m ears deep in .ini tweaking instead…

Happens every time.

Don’t you love it when you have everything fixed. Then tweak or add that one file that sets you back four steps… :rofl:

There’s a man with the Strike Fighters thousand yard stare…

I know the Win 10 update won’t contain it. But multiplayer. I want multiplayer. If SF2 and VTOL VR get multiplayer…I may retire from other sims. Not really. Actually , some sweet, sweet MSFS2020 Mudspike fly-ins to some unique locations might be on order if that ends up with a robust MP feature…

I’ve seen some stuff, man…

God help me, I’ve found the Weapons Editor.

Dumb question - but are there parachute flares in SF2? I never explored that option. I’m reading a book about A-1 Skyraiders that used to use some sort of flare “log” they dropped to attack targets at night. I think it was the LUU-1/B…I haven’t tried to see if I can load one of those yet…

Ah…I just checked, there are LUU-2s in the game, but they just fall to the ground too fast like a dumb bomb and don’t stay aloft long enough to really be effective…

I bet that can be tweaked in the .ini files…

… muawhahahaha!!!

There used to be parachutists that could be dropped from C-130s. One of the myriad of weapons packs has them. You might try using its descent values and seeing what it does to the flares hang time.

Hmm…looking at something like the LUU-2B-B - looks like lots of parameters in that INI file that could affect stuff. Maybe change the loft angle or something to make it go up a bit? Duration is 150 - I’m assuming that is seconds… Maybe drag coefficients will make it more draggy and less likely to fall? I dunno…lots to play with there…

I just emailed support to see if they can track down my purchase history. I didnt save every email but know I bought everything. Native Win10 support would be nice.

:face_with_monocle: Time to check my emails I guess.

I also have SF2 running pretty well, when I bother to try it, but I’m intrigued by his return to something he arguably gave up on 7 years ago.

I’ve done this once before and TK’s pretty good about tracking this stuff down. My purchases were tied to an email I no longer had access to and he switched it over to my current email the same day.

Ooof…two hours down the drain working on this…trying to get flares to stay aloft and burn longer all to no avail.

I’ve messed with settings in all kinds of files hoping to find the solution…

LumFlareEffect.ini
Mk24flare_DATA.ini
LAU-74-A.ini
MLU-44B_Flare.ini
LAU-62Flare_data.ini
LUU-2BB_Flare_Data.ini

LOL…I’m spent. Nothing seems to change the burn time. Depending on the type of flare they only burn for 20 seconds or 60 seconds. :man_shrugging:

I wonder if the burn/illumination time is in the effect in the Effects folder that the weapon points to…?

That is my assumption too, but I’ve drilled down into those folders trying to find a setting that works and I can’t seem to hit on it.

For instance, in my SF2 Vietnam Mod folder I have:

SF2V-Objects-Weapons-LUU-2B-B-LUU-2B-B_data.INI

In there are:

EffectClassName=LumFlareEffects

and

[LumFlareEffects]
GroundHitEffectName=LumFlareEffect
GroundHitSoundName=SmallExplosion.wav
WaterHitEffectName=LumFlareEffect
WaterHitSoundName=
ObjectHitEffectName=LumFlareEffect
ObjectHitSoundName=SmallExplosion.wav
ArmorHitEffectName=LumFlareEffect
ArmorHitSoundName=SmallExplosion.wav
CraterModelName=
CraterType=

If I go to my Effects folder I can find:

LumFlareEffect.ini

In there I found some ParticleLifeTime settings that I changed from 1.0000 to 2.0000 hoping to double the burn time, but no luck on that.

It’s been a while since I played with effects, and I may have FSX and SF2 effects confused here, but are there lines for EmitterLifeTime or something like that? I think that would control how long to keep emitting the glow effect…

If not, I’m sure someone at combatace can answer this in 5.73 seconds…
