I know it’s probably silly to say this in 2020 but… after watching the movie countless times, I finally read “The hunt for Red October” the book.

I must say a gripping book!
It totally blew me away.
Yes, it’s a bit proud in a few moments- but it’s still placed in the '80s so I think it’s quite fair.

Having really only read Clancy’s book from Rainbow Six on, I’m surprised how good his first book was.
Can’t wait to read on the rest of his book I previously missed!

Yes Sir! First non-fiction I recall ever reading, on my own when it first cam out :); it spoiled me from then on. Still my number 1 fav.

And if you’re in to men in skirts, slinging swords, and general conquer-age…

If you enjoyed Red October…you have to read Red Storm Rising… :grinning:

Crap! That’s what I meant…got my “Red’s” mixed up. RSR was the best!

…glancing (squinting now) over at my bookshelf…there it is!

Pages are really yellow.

It sure is. He has simple yet powerful descriptions of what is going on and his insights. Love this book!

Scanned this thread , and saw no mention of “Stick and Rudder” by Wolfgang Langwiesche . 76 years later , it is still the best book ever written on the “art of flying” .

Not a book. Every so often you find a good link “over there”.

Now I get why it wasn’t the usual silliness. I stopped to read the poster

And if you liked that, try this, from the same author.

Nice, just bought the Kindle version for $3.

I read it last year and really enjoyed it :slightly_smiling_face:

I just picked up a Kevin Miller book, called The Silver Waterfall: A Novel of the Battle of Midway.

I have read his Raven One, Declared Hostile and Fight Fight. I think he is assisting Baltic Dragon on a campaign.
