Lots of clouds over the Aleutian Chain today..only giving brief glimpses of the terrain below. Starting to clear up a bit as we approach Dutch Harbor (famously home to the Deadliest Catch crab fishing fleet)…

Nice view of Dutch Harbor below…uh…well…maybe not so much…

I’ll be in Charlotte on Friday… Where can I come get a Tupperware full?

Not easily, unfortunately. I mean it’s a f → (x) sort of transformation, but nothing non-programming sort of exists in the X-Plane world like SBuilderX did for FSX. Often kmz files just contain paths or polygons, but it is possible to import them using something like this - KML or Shape files import - Scenery Development Forum - X-Plane.Org Forum

I can see Russia from here!

That doesn’t look like anyone’s front porch though

Passing over Iturup - the last island that has a Russian airfield on it…was anxiously awaiting an SA-6 to come arcing up..I did not ask for permission to overfly..!

There..not that first volcanic cone (still Russian territory)..but the ridge in the distant haze - Japan!

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help.

This is how Donald Crowhurst probably fell overboard. A Eureka! moment!

NOTAM to Mariners!

I understood that reference…LOL…

Looking forward to the resolution of this dilemma!

Leg 06 - Salt Lake City, Utah to Jackson Hole, Wyoming (KSLC - KJAC)

The Marriott hadn’t changed much in the 28 years since I last been a quest there. There was the obligatory face lift and slight upgrade in amenities that most hotels of that class have had over the years, but the lobby and rooms felt uncannily familiar. How many times had I stayed here? I wonder if they still let the flight crews keep their skis in the luggage room all season? Does the Alta/Snowbird bus still stop on the corner across the street?

We shared the hotel courtesy van back to the airport with a Delta B752 crew. Talk about pioneering glass and thrust to weight ratio! What a bird. It’s hard to imagine that they will be coming off the line soon. I kept my thoughts to myself, and couldn’t help but feel co-conspirator in their enthusiasm for the work day. Some folks were just getting changed into a low cubicle about now. We were being paid to fly bunch of beer to an exotic location, and to host a party when we got there.

Hmm, this day was certainly starting out interesting.

Regardless, as with previous legs, the forecast for our destination looked quite favorable. Nothing to do but get two turning and be on our way. Besides, Bill had promised a huge surprise would be waiting for us in Jackson Hole. Perhaps this explains the necessity of G1000 school a few months ago.

With such a gloomy departure, it was surprising how quickly we broke out in time to catch the majestic peaks of the adjoining Wasatch Range.

Again our magic box would guide, comfort, and protect us along the way. Please oh please don’t ever ask me to fly a DME arc again. Perhaps we do need a Christian Eagle just to keep the fire lit.

Real seat of the pants flying. Garcon! Another bloody please while the autopilot performs another perfect standard rate turn to course.

Never had the pleasure, but Logan looked like a nice place to get domiciled, at least from one-eight-zero.

A short while after Logan, chipwich discovers the horror that was forgetting to load Wyoming ortho photo tiles. I considered flying the leg over, but realized that not only had @BeachAV8R sprinted passed, but that I was getting my ass thoroughly kicked by a sailboat. Must press on.

The RNAV (GPS) X RW 01 must be one of the easier approaches ever devised, but I was thinking that it would be a good time fly one, since we had to this point, flown all visuals in the Dornier. And rumor was that we weren’t going to be in a twin turboprop when we departed KJAC. I added the approach in the GTN, but quickly realized that the gray wonder box had tacked it on after our destination. I probably missed the insert button. Anyway, removing KJAC, then adding the approach seemed to work. “So easy, even a caveman can do it.”

We hit HOMVA → VALCU → ZUGEN all pretty close to designated altitude. But then got sloppy, and had to add a very effective second notch of flaps to get us back on glideslope. As you can see, this was really macho, “I deliver the mail in a biplane through snowstorms” type of flying. It will probably get nastier as we get up in the Pacific Northwest, so we’ll happily take the easy ones.

Jackson Hole politely greeted us with a moon rise.

What a great aircraft is the Do 228. I must admit she only came up on my radar screen after reading some very positive reviews. I think that along with the Kodiak, since she was late out of the barn, Carenado will keep her a priority for updates to XP11.10 and reported soon coming small patch 11.11.

Shutdown and secured, Bill and I moved towards the FBO with a pretty good spring in our step. The air was definitely a bit nippier up here and had that “it’s about to snow” smell to it. As we approached a set of double cedar doors, a very smooth sounding pair of turbines taxied up behind us. Bill grabbed my shoulder, spinning me around. With a sheepish grin and pointing a thumb over his shoulder, “Ain’t she pretty?”

I laughed.

Definitely. I’ve only flown the P3D version…but it was one of my favorite planes to review in the past few years. It is just a fun little bird with great performance, and straight-forward systems.

Great screens and report!

At this rate, Chris is going to beat me to the finish line.
I’m in Brunei now (I still need to write up the report from the last leg). So I’m thinking that two more legs should do it for me.

Very kind of you  but feel no stres, still trying to be not sober enough to fly :beers:
