Oh man, that looks fantastic Troll! Well done sir
I have been kind of a lurker for a while, but the absolute craftsmanship of these designs made me make a mudspike account.
I have a question, perhaps I’m reading the descriptions wrong: could any of these be modified to just be a center detent? As I only play Elite Dangerous I would not need after-burner or idle.
Thanks for the dedication Troll.
Welcome to Mudspike, @cmdr.deth.vegetable!
Yes, in a way. It’s just a matter of placing the ball plungers correctly. I’m going to make 3D files for that purpose, and for those who would like just the AB detent, or detents (not locks) for idle.
That said, there’s a guy over at the VPC forum that are making detents too and his might be better for your purpose. We’re posting in the same thread there, so you can follow both designs.
But please don’t leave us!
looks great
Looks lovely, is the mechanical feedback as desired or are you still tinkering with that mechanism?
You mean the ball plungers for the AB detent?
They are good and firm enough. I wish the detent only worked one way so that it didn’t stop the throttle coming out of AB again… Not a big issue, but still.
You know me… Always tinkering!

Have you thought about putting the plungers on the throttle locks instead of on the center “track”. AB could simply be a part of the “track” that’s less deep.
Just a thought, depending on the plunger force, it could wear the printed plastic part, but I’m not sure how much of an issue that is.
Anyway, great work! Will definitely print this one when it is released!
Hi there, @potatocroustille and welcome to Mudspike!
Yes.
Problem i two-fold.
One is that there’s a little “give” in the throttle levers. You can basically pry them slightly apart. This will affect the plungers contact with the center arc.
Two, The arc detents would have to be steel. There’s no chance the plastic would stand the pressure from the plungers.
It’s also a case of trying to design this mod to be as simple as possible to make and operate, while keeping with the design goals of AB detent and shutoff lock.
But thanks for your input! If you have more ideas for me to consider, don’t hesitate!
Makes total sense, thanks for your answer! And thanks for you work too, it’s really great!
I’d like to already order the plungers as they take a long time to arrive from China. What’s the specs of the plungers you are using?
Ball plungers diameter and thread M6, max length 12mm.
The ones I use in the prototype are 12mm long but I have ordered a bunch of 10mm plungers as they can be screwed back 2mm and disengage from the track, so to speak. Useful if you want to fly non-AB aircraft for a while.
You will need M3 30mm and 18mm socket screws as well. I’m putting together small hardware sets that I will sell at cost+shipping. But you can of course source your parts elswhere.
The springs are from cheapo ball point pens
Plungers order - checked.
Screws order - I’ll go check which ones I have and which I don’t and place the order ASAP
Thanks
Does it matter which type of head the docket screws have? There are 2 major types sold online (see attached photos)
Not really, but the ones in the first pic will match the rest of the screws around the throttle base. preferably steel color.
Done
I’m personally not a fan of the new design Troll, it looks solid but doesn’t really fit the rest of the throttle design.
