I mean, wouldn’t you if you could swing the $3,000/hour flight cost?
Well, yeah, duh!
The one and only…

Now unless they make the TOP GUN2 movie in the same time period say maybe even 60’s 70’s and 80’s its just another STEALTH movie.
But I would still support any Air Combat movie lets be honest nothing stays the same its progression and now with our 50" wide screen UHD 4K OLED TV’s “AIR COMBAT” couldn’t look so much better on screen.
The other problem is, if they’re setting this movie in the present day, Maverick should have retired a long, long time ago, considering he would’ve already been in the service for at least four years, to be a Lieutenant by 1986, so let’s say he was commissioned in 1982 (hey, I wonder if he went through OCS at the same time as Zach Mayo!), which means he would’ve been eligible for retirement in 2002. Let’s say he stuck around for OIF /OEF, unless he made flag rank, would he really have been in service still after 2012? Which means that again, if the movie is based in present day, he’ll have to be flag rank (likely at least O-8, or a two - star Admiral) to be able to remain in service.
I’m morbidly curious to see how this is addressed. @boomerang10, did I do my math right?
Are you really expecting accuracy and realism?
Contractor instructor pilot?
This may have already been posted somewhere here, but it seems relevant…
The film crew built a beach bar out on the sand at Breaker’s Beach at NAS North Island. There’s a smaller place nearby to there, but a buddy of mine who’s TAD out there noticed this under construction a couple of weeks ago.
Y’all see this? In a couple of Facebook groups I’m in, folks currently on the TR are corroborating a lot of this sort of thing.
He was fine once they installed a reading room on the Teddy and allowed him a daily jump on the Admiral’s couch.
…and I just almost snorted coffee onto my keyboard…
A friend of mine who works at the Intercontinental on the harbor in San Diego posted a video of fireworks over the Midway last night, because something relating to filming of Top Gun.
I’m so excited for this. I may even break my cinema embargo!
Same here.
Usually I only watch Star Wars movies and that’s basically it, but for TopGun 2 I might go and watch it, if only to be able to get on a soap box, shaking my fist at the skies, and tell everybody how dire it is.
When Top Gun hit the cinemas I was a wide eyed 15 year old dreaming of becoming a military pilot. At he time, my knowledge of flying came from reading books and playing on 8 bit sims. That made the movie more believable to some extent.
Now, at the age of 47, with some real world flight experience, and countless hours of playing far more realistic sims, I have to say I am not anticipating much in the way of authenticity when it comes to Top Gun 2. I’m sure it will be entertaining, so long as I keep my expectations firmly in check. It can’t be worse than Stealth right?
I’m leaning in your direction Paul, but I suppose that it depends on how Hollywood it is and how much they listened to their SMEs. If Jell-O could get some inside intel from some of his active duty Top Gun buddies, I’d love to know if they feel or
.
Mission Impossible: Stealth
We really need to figure out a hierarchy here for terrible aviation movies, because I’m having a hard time figuring out what the upper and lower points of comparison would be. I mean, you can’t forget ALL the Iron Eagle movies, or Firebirds, or Pearl Harbor (I would rank that as the worst, personally).
Thoughts?
My choice for best fighter pilot movie of all time is confirmed…although Battle of Britain is a very close P2.
Yep. My thoughts are that you accidentally wrote terrible but only mentioned awesome films… Im sure you will address this in a later post and mention some ‘actual’ terrible films lol
