Will be the best Navy recruitment film ever!!!
Like the original, I’ll put up with the non-flying scenes…though it’s likely be a long time before I get to an actual movie theatre (there is no movie worthy of me driving 3 hours for ).

One does not merely watch a Top Gun sequel. Rather, it must be absorbed by the right side of one’s brain. Then, once the adrenalin and endorphins subside, must it be scrutinized by the left.
Nice that they gave Val Kilmer a nod.
Something something something digital flight control system, something something something hacked, something something green code turning red.
That’s my guess.
Also, what year is this supposed to take place in? I made the mistake of doing the math on Goose’s son- dude HAS to be my age, or close to it, based on the release year for Top Gun.
How could a tomcat meet a Felon unless hes flying an Iriaf one lol
Maverick remembers in a sombre mood “And that was the last time I ever flew a Tomcat. After meeting that - thing -.”
Can’t go wrong with the ever ambiguous “Present Day”
30ish years (as originally advertised) puts it at 2016 +/-…
I seem to remember seeing a shot of him looking at his old Tomcat as a gate guard or something, maybe at NAS North Island (where the Pacific fleet helos and the San Diego-based carriers are homeported, and where a significant amount of filming took place - 3 or 4 years ago), or MCAS Miramar (where the original film took place). And I know that one night a good portion of Coronado (the island/ peninsula where North Island is located) was shut down for towing a Tomcat across most of downtown. And I’m betting that it’s going to be a “bring it back to service/ there was a secret plan all along, maybe with Admiral Iceman navigating it behind the scenes for exactly this situation/ only thing that can fight off the mysterious MiG-38 from unknown country/ montage of re-introducing the Tomcat” type situation. And Baby Goose will be the RIO, because his dad taught him at 5 years old, yadda yadda.
That’s my guess, anyway.
And all the good scenes are the ones we have already seen in the trailer, like with most movies these days.
And the scene in the Tomcat is actually a dream that Maverick has, in which he gets his ass kicked by a Felon. It takes around 10 seconds in the movie.
So he takes his wheelchair to the ramp, is lifted into a Super Hornet like an astromech droid into a Star Wars fighter, and flies that.
Agreed except the stealth fighter thing (aurora?) We keep seeing gets ■■■■■ slapped by the felon and then leads into your idea.
Lol, late to the party again. Came here to post that new Trailer too.
Wheels
C’mon guys. Girls in what should be the obligatory gay volleyball scene? It’s just not right. Not right.
Just to note, there is a Tomcat Featured Scene.
early 2000s,
This movie has been delayed overall 10 years, between the casting delay, the re-shoot delay, and the Covid Delay.
Equal opportunity.
Well, between Top Gun: Maverick and the Obi Wan TV series starting the same week, I’m going to need extra time to digest it all. Gotta email my boss for the time off!
The tragic loss of the director made a massive impact.
Was Tony Scott supposed to direct the sequel?
Im willing to bet it was supposed to be set prior to the F-14s death sentence being carried out.
2005 ish
Rooster’s Age, Block I Super Hornets.
the only thing that doesnt fix is the Felon. It’s in service now, but still no where no IOC, and may suffer worse than the F-22A Program did with cut backs and limited numbers.
But the detail of painting over the anti-slip stripes on the forward engine cowling also points to the IRIAF F-14s w/ the Subtle grey blue scheme from the 2013-2015 “Refit” of new engines and Digital Fire Control.
The script likely had to be changed from the original 2002 Draft (yes 2002!),
Kelly McGillis was a definite No go, Val Kilmer was a questionable, Anthony Edwards refused to do flash back shots.
