I think there is still 7 other LHD’s running around, and 2 America classes. I’m pretty sure she was out of the rotation at the moment. Maybe just jumped to the front of the decommission line though…
Is she still burning?
Peleliu and Nassau are in reserve right now, with Peleliu being the more recent decomm (5 years ago). Bonhomme Richard had just come out of a roughly 2 year drydock period, and was still going through modernization, and was expected to for the rest of the year, from what I understand. Boxer just pulled into drydock, so that’s unavailable for the foreseeable future.
I’m not 100% sure- I’m seeing conflicting information on that right now. From the livestream below, MH-60’s are still dropping water, and tugs are still spraying the hull, though I read last night (2200 local San Diego time) that the fires were out and dewatering and desmoking were in progress. Can’t verify that independently though.
it’ll buff out
I think someone already listed it on Craigslist…
slightly used boat, motor in good condition, needs some TLC…
I saw the USS Tripoli (LHA-7) has officially entered the US Navy fleet on Wednesday…
Must pick up…will not deliver…will not help load…
I saw that:
No low-ball offers, I know what I got
Lots and lots of firefighting water board that ship right now. I haven’t gotten any real new word on status, but there were some pictures that were snuck onto /r/navy last night (I think they’ve since been taken down). Lots of warped bulkheads and overheads, and if I saw it correctly, the structure supporting the flight deck and the ramp to the flight deck have buckled and collapsed. The interior spaces were pretty thoroughly scorched as well.
May be some here:
Live feed here, definitely showing a list to port:

There are some pics in the threads here:
I’m surprised how many pictures are posted from an inside. I would think damage be considered at least FOUO.
Ditto. Guess they figure if it’s all a burned out wreck, no harm done.
The Navy is charging an unnamed sailor, at this time, with Arson now.
Navy charges sailor with starting the fire that destroyed USS Bonhomme Richard
The Navy has charged a sailor with starting a fire in July 2020 that destroyed the USS Bonhomme Richard, an amphibious assault ship that became engulfed by an inferno for days as the ship was docked in San Diego, California.
Wheels
Does anybody in the know have any idea wether the bonhomme was a particularly unhappy ship?
Shipyard makes EVERYBODY unhappy, period. It’s even worse than the liberty-free extended deployments the fleet has made in the last couple of years.
Read up on the fire on the USS Miami- these things aren’t that uncommon.
Bored sailors commit mutiny or they desert.
I learned that in Pirates on my C=64!
Very true, @B12. But, on the other hand, all it takes is one disturbed individual. Could be the arsonist developed psychological issues or even managed to conceal them.
But that’s of course just speculation on my part.
I just find it hard to believe that the USN needs a scapegoat. I mean, if they had a sailor that was capable of this, and managed to do it all alone, then that is a systematic failure as well. So, I guess, either way the USN has lessons to learn from this…?
I mean - without being secluded on a boat for the longest time - even in my mountain troops battalion it wasn’t hard to find a number of damaged individuals to whom I wouldn’t have given an unloaded slingshot, much less an active mortar round…
So - maybe it was an individual, no need for terrorism charges.
Also allegedly it’s a seaman apprentice - it could have been simple negligence.
And as @Navynuke99 said - it’s not hard to find disgruntled personnel, in any service.
Long story short, @B12 - it’s not necessarily that they need to find a scapegoat.
Maybe they did find the root cause and they do need to make a case for it to avoid another event like that.
Dunno.
