Varjo Aero VR headset

Don’t have time re-read all the above but…

I may not have gotten the ‘memo’ on this, or something changed in the last one or two updates but, given the following:

Windows 11
Varjo Aero
3080Ti

It won’t start in MT mode [it crashes] unless I have Varjo base running (I did start DCS from the VR desktop too).

Looked through the crash file (the .zip file one) and saw a reference to the HMD, something, something (I don’t have that PC on at the moment to re-read it)

I swear it would start up fine in MT 2D before[1] withOUT the Aero pugged in or Vargo Base running. It was never an issue with the G2. I’d run it in 2D MT mode just to check some settings; test if my mission would load and such, then exit; etc.

[1] I haven’t used this PC much in a couple of weeks, beyond the quick runs mentioned above.

You don’t have the force_vr exe extension?

Was running it from my normal 2D MT shortcut, no command line arg’s, just the bin-mt.exe association.

On my VR shortcut I have --force_OpenXR, which is working.

[EDIT] of course another DCS update just dropped so all bets are off

Ok, it was the only thing I could think of…

I actually just noticed this today. I was trying to load up in 2D and active pause so I could set up some Voice Attack commands … And DCS crashed every time loading into 2D. VD was fine. I didn’t turn off Varjo Base, however … I should try that.

Welcome to Mudspine Mmoke87!

I’m not having this issue using the steam version of DCS with Windows Mixed Reality and the —force_OpenXR option set in the Steam options.

Not sure what is causing your problem?

Welcome to Mudspike!

Varjo has a special event tonight…

Will they announce the successor to the Aero?
I’m hoping for an Aero with speakers and stereo passthrough camera.

Ok…
A bunch of bullet points from the reveal.

Varjo XR4.
51PPD local dimming display. (Aero has 35)
120°x105° FoV
Adjustable lenses both for IPD and focal length.
Aspheric lenses, not pancake.
The cheapest version will have 33PPD fixed adjustable focus passthrough cameras.
Inside out tracking and hand controllers.
Built in audio speakers.
Collaboration with Nvidia.

The cheapest version will sell at €3990…!

No plans for an Aero2, but the Aero will continue in the product line.

Yeah, it’s pretty much twice the introductory price of the Aero…

The XR4 isn’t aimed at us. I was hoping for an even lighter consumer version, but unfortunately no plans for that.

For those missing NeckSafer in DCS running DCS MT version a solution was posted in DCS forums. I have tested as per instructions and it works
Link: Varjo Aero - run XRNeckSafer with Varjo Foveated in MT.exe - Virtual Reality - ED Forums (dcs.world)

EDIT: new link

Varjo Aero is no longer available through Varjo and is now discontinued… :frowning:
Varjo will support it til the end of 2025.

This is a bit of a surprise to me. I mean, all hardware will meet the end of the line one day. I just think this was a bit early.

Looks like Varjo are going back to professional customers and maybe pro-sumers, with the XR-4.

Well, My focus shifts towards the Somnium VR1.

My G2 is still holding on but I’ve been eyeing a potential upgrade. Well, at least for me, the VR scene has once again become rather confusing.

At the moment, the Quest3 is at the top of the list to replace my G2 when the time comes.

The price / performance intersection makes it hard to beat for me, even if I do have to go back on my word and have anything to do with FB/Meta.
