it is huge price tag for sure but with Artisan I feel like when I started to use 40inch FHD TV instead of regular monitor… soon enough I wanted something bigger with 4K res :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

How nice of you!
As always, I’d like to test the headsets before buying, but that’s rarely an option.
I totally get what you’re saying about lowering the resolution and still take advantage of the sweet spot and clear lenses.
I’m not buying a new headset until next year. Curious to see how the market looks by then…

Agree, FOV is the next big thing for me. Or that Foveated? rendering thing.

Yeah, I figured as much - a 3090 might not even cut it. Maybe 2025 will be the year?

GPU’s , least 3090 is more than enough, problem is DCS core engine for now.

So i hope that they get Vulkan support made right. Its not magic bullet if done poorly.

Time will tell

I hope so too. My basis for that hope is that XP-11 wasn’t any fun in VR until they Vulkan-ized ™ it. Absolute framerates didn’t necessarily increase a lot but it was waaaaay smoother.

funnily what made me instantly sick was picking Schweizer 300 in XP into hover. only slightest antitourque pedals input made me want to throw that thing away (I mean the HS)

I am just used to the inflight montions too much I guess. it will definitively take some time to overcome

anyway irl riding with someone else is a challenge. I have ‘good stomach’ but experiencing ride in a sailplane while someone else is riding the thermals is not an easy experience. I guess it is the same, or even worser, in acro aircraft.

I moved the discussion here as that none-motion sickness is definitely ‘VR News’ for me

I had a long night X/C a couple of weeks ago in the R22, flown mostly under the hood to check off a couple of FAA boxes. There was one moment where the hood had to come off or I was going to loose it.

not happy to admit it but the sickness was maybe caused by picture jitter in the headset. I have read on openmr forums that many Pimax users have experienced it mainly in seated vr configuration (cockpit frames are quite close to the eyepoint so instantly noticeable).

submited ticket as the only solution seems to be downgrade from base station 2.0 to 1.0. will let you know more once I will have some info from support

the ‘not happy’ part is that I expected seamless tracking with lighthouse base station

Dosen’t PIMAX run through SteamVR, like Index?
Reason I’m asking, is I’ve experienced nothing but rock steady tracking, with the Index and Basestations 2.0.

yes, thats correct, through steamvr.

and other pimax users, who owns also index, reported similarly. there is probably some sw / fw issue in-between pitool steamvr and that 2.0 stations

Well, that’s not good
Hope they find a way to fix it, other than downgrading the Basestations!

Varjo Aero - Varjo’s first consumer headset

Quick facts:

  • 2880x2720 per eye
  • 90hz
  • 115 degrees hFOV
  • aspheric lenses
  • SteamVR pos tracking (so no inside-out )
  • eye tracking
  • 1990 EUR (ex VAT) :grimacing:
  • no annual fee

(Tyriel Wood has got a through-the-lens video comparing Varjo, Reverb and Index but it seems to me he was not able to shoot the Varjo properly, dunno)

Who is the first one to buy? :sunglasses:

EDIT: A quick calculation reveals that since more pixels delivered by Varjo needs to be spread over larger FOV, the Pixel Per Degree count is not SO MUCH better that the Reverb one. Staying tuned for comparison shots…

Saw a review on another channel too.

I’m claiming ignorance here: I thought ‘eye tracking’ would allow for a larger FOV? And that’s 3X what I paid for my G2. But, I’m happy there’s VR stuff happening.

Oh goody. I only have to sell the car to get this!

VR flight sim guy review

Interesting!
Good to see Varjo entering our market.
I’m tempted…

Okay, sounds good. Seems the lenses are the showcase here - things being clear edge-to-edge. That’s very good.

No light-houses. No audio. That price keeps going up. I can’t keep up.

Steam VR only. No mention of Open XR support…

Really interesting, but a touch too high a price point for me. I guess it’s prosumer ish, as that would be about 3000 EUR if you had to buy hand controllers, base stations and some audio.

The hFOV isn’t great, but I guess that’s a compromise with pixel density. Glad it exists, and hope it becomes more mainstream. Someone here should definitely buy it  as the Youtubers reviews can be a bit breathless in excitement of them getting a unit for free sometimes…

SAAB and the SwAF use the Varjo VR3…
Resistance is futile!

I…. I…kind of…ordered it.
Wonder if one base station is enough?
