VR News

My first thought was, 'Yes, I just bought another one so thank you universe for making me have to send it back already :sob: '.

On further review it’s not a huge set of things, mainly:

  • The new cable. I’ve got one of those on the way, plus the old one is ok on my Intel chipset.

  • The new face gasket. I’ve actually just took the old one off and use my own squishing one, as it really improves the FOV, so not really bothered by getting a new hard material one.

  • Tracking updates. Looks just like firmware, which I think got applied this week for me. Tracking seems fine, but I play VR like I’m Detective Ironside, so not really a big thing to notice. I think the Reverb is best as a sim sit-down thing and the Index/Oculus much better for leaping around.

Nice that HP is still doing active improvements though. The Windows options features look nice, just making it a bit smoother with SteamVR etc - lots of friction in that area.

@NEVO had the one I think. It would still do 6DOF with one I think?

Think so too…
I would really like to get by with just one, but if I need another I can just get one later.

apollon01, you must be new best buds with our resident Director of Bad Influencing, @PaulRix. I felt my hand reaching for the debit card in the worst way.

Then I found out that Aero doesn’t come with inside-out tracking and that the fit will be a challenge for people with big heads. As much as I’m tempted to jump in line, I use the tilt-up feature on my G2 a lot, and I really don’t want to mess with tracking towers. Dang-it. Will most likely sit this one out.

Did you? Define ‘kind of’ please :astonished:

I was actually thinking about you when posting the news since in the context of the price of your GPU, the Varjo… while not exactly cheap… would not be the outlier in your setup. But then I thought I better shut up :zipper_mouth_face: :grinning:

I might pull the trigger if the price would be around the ball mark of what I paid for my GPU at the time. Though now it sits pretty high above.

Or maybe I should buy a new GPU now to tighten the gap

(or maybe I don’t and with the funds saved I will spend a wonderful winter week skiing with the whole family in Austria)

Good to know. From that article, it appears that those features are included in Windows 11. Hmm. I hadn’t planned on upgrading my OS for a while, preferring to let it simmer a bit. But since I spend so much time in VR now, wondering if it might be worth it. Also, I gather the new face plate will be an accessory purchase for current owners?

I think those are the old gaskets (I love that word) and so far haven’t seen anything on how to snag a new one or if existing peasants get a deal.

For the Win11 features, they are coming to Win10 anyway, and I think really the only thing of note is the ‘Don’t launch WMR home’ and we can hack that with an empty environment with https://www.skyspaces.app/

you can get the second one from me, selling cheap

sure 6DOF with single one

but what I have learned so far

  • Valve Index works reportedly OK with single base station 2.0, or at least I didnt find that much complaints on web
  • Pimax (Artisan, 5K something and 8KX) have tracking problems with single base station 2.0 - occasionally lost tracking, picture jitter, …

so it needs to be tried with that new Vario to know how good the headsets are factory calibrated

edit : I mean somebody speculated that the tracking issues with Pimax could be caused by no / bad factory calibration. someone else speculated about the new blue coating material, etc.
btw I didnt get any specific explenation for it in my ‘resolved’ support ticket.

VR FS guy in his vid (9:45) is showing Vario sw where you can switch to OpenXR

If they are running MSFS then it supports OpenXR, probably through Valve’s OpenXR driver set-up.

I googled the video @NEVO - this guy is shouting at me to buy it now…

I just finished watching it and I really like that guy! he is sooo excited and I personally lack that ‘feature’

The trouble is when everything is that exciting, in a way, nothing is.

I want the @Troll Review™. If he mutters ‘it’s ok’ then now I’m interested. Anyone else with a free unit I treat as an advert.

Unfortunately, Varjo says 3-4 month delivery… Might have to wait a while.

Didn’t watch the whole video. Will do that tomorrow.

Via Steam VR, or…?

The video implied their own driver, so basically a toggle between OpenVR or OpenXR support. Those lenses look magnificent.
