*I dunno but I think the G2 in that DCS pic looks as good if not better. But yeah, TTL shots are hard to get right. I’m surprised that someone hasn’t invented a gizmo for that yet. Tape doesn’t count.
*says the guy that just bought a G-2 a few months aog
I think that video did the dirty on the Aero personally - the lens and the chromatic distortion look bad but the devices uses an eye tracker to help with that, and shoving in an iPad will make it look worse than it would be. I think he mentioned it in the video but published it anyway of course.
That makes sense and probably added considerably to the cost. I remember during the first Oculus conference when the keynote mentioned that eye tracking was pretty unobtainable at the time.
I have to admit I haven’t really been taking too much notice of the chatter about this headset until today. It looks like it will be amazing, but $2000 plus at least one base station is giving me pause for thought, especially as my Reverb G2 is barely a year old. Still, never say never.
Yeah…if it were $1200 I’d probably hop on it…but 2K…err…nah… I say that now of course… I wish I could get a look through the lenses of one though. It really does sound like a nice picture quality…
Thing is though, that Steve “VRFlightSimGuy” Walton is just that. A die hard VR Flightsimmer who loves VR and Flightsims. He has tested all the latest VR headsets with all our favourite sims. True, he is enthusiastic in his videos and he accentuates the positive sides. But he will tell you the downsides too.
The last couple of months I’ve been hovering over the buy button of a Pimax 8KX. But I’ve been holding back because of user reports. Lots of happy Pimax users, but a fair bunch seem to get technical issues that they just can’t seem to solve. @NEVO is far from alone. And then the rumors started to surface about Varjo going into the consumer market. I already thought that if I could get a VR3 without the subscription, I’d consider it. And here we are.
Me neither… It’s been the main reason for getting the Rift S and then Reverb G2, for me. But that’s because of my experience with the Rift CV1 dual tracking towers.
The Lighthouse base stations just need power. No USB cable to your PC and you can place it almost anywhere in the room, as long as your headset can see it and use it as a fixed reference point. That’s from what I understand at least. Not thrilled about leaving inside-out tracking behind, but I’m prepared to try it…
in regards to flight sims in VR I would rather listen to any flight sim guy now
e.g. Sebastian did good review of the Artisan, but it was roomscale VR review with 2 base stations. so in the end my seated experience with single station was not really matching. also in one previous video he invited to his studio some flight sim guy to test all the headsets to help him decide. that guy said that his choice is Valve Index as seamless experience (G2 and Pimax where the other hs he tested iirc)… and I didnt take it seriously enough… so I ended up returning my Artisan
VR FS guy is over-excited some times but his flight sim take on the VR experience is unique.
if you guys really wants unbiased flight sim review of the Aero, with all the cons highlighted from a ‘I am not that VR excited guy’, then lets start fund raising to acquire me that hs and I will happily do it for the MS community wellbeing
it worked even with the Artisan, the problem was the picture jitter. I would ask VRFS guy in the comments below to shot some still footage (with the hs on a flat surface) if there is any picture jitter visible in the cockpit.
maybe theres not, but I need to first see it to believe
… actually he blamed the picture shaking to him speaking… maaaay beeee
There’s no jittering in the TTL scenes. Wouldn’t there be if he had a similar issue like the one you experienced?
I tried asking in the comments section on another video, but I don’t think he understood my question. He did say that two base stations would obviously better, but one will do the job. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
Just your old YMMV here, but this morning I was noticing some jitters flying around Tokyo in MSFS. A Google search turned up this post from the ED forum, and it worked for me. No more jitter.
