It’s completely plug and play once calibrated. Just turn it on. To the PC it’s a mouse. Such a clever little device. Get it! Do it!

Abbreviated clip of me flying VIP Extraction last night. Was doing pretty good until I took a MANPAD to the face during my troop insertion, resulting in an asymmetric thrust during the landing phase…couldn’t save it at that low altitude and couldn’t get my nozzles pointed aft fast enough…

I can barely read the VTOL Discord channel anymore. I love the modders and mission designers…but the Discord chat format is terrible.

Using the HMCS to pick out targets in the city…

Once roughly designated with the HMCS, you can tweak the aiming with the hand controller touch pad. The new city lighting really is fantastic…

In another mission. Mistakes were made. Apparently it was supposed to be a precision strike on the oil platform so as not to totally destroy it. My 16 rockets had “environmental disaster” written all over them. Mission failed.

I am really starting to think I have to get this game.

I’m its biggest fan-boi, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. But whenever I play it, I enjoy it immensely because it is “complicated lite”…which doesn’t make sense, but it has a near perfect mix of action, cockpit interaction, complexity, and (generally) achievable missions. It isn’t supposed to be DCS, and it isn’t supposed to be as pretty as other sims, but they nailed the feel of interacting with a cockpit in a meaningful way.

What is the VR equipment you use?

HP Reverb paired with my Samsung Odyssey controllers (they are more ergonomic than the Reverb ones). But VTOL VR works well even with lower resolution VR headsets since the graphics are more basic and the size of the stuff in the panel lends itself to easier reading and manipulation.

I’m going to have to go back to the MudSpike section where people have reviewed and recommended VR headsets and such. It may be time this year to jump in.

Agreed with all. I came away with the sense it was flight sim’s answer to Kerbal Space Progam (which I love); there’s lotsa realistic stuff in there but it’s less…errr…‘retentive’ about visuals? Still not getting used to the controller thing - my brain has used a real HOTAS for decades so it’s gonna be tuff.

The Reverb G2 should be pretty darn good. I have the G1 (Gen 1) and absolutely love it.

Just did the VIP extraction. Thanks for pointing it out. It took me a few tries but I enjoyed every minute.

Yeah…it is not hard, but it took me a couple tries to learn some patience and the right mix of ordnance expenditures. Love those city lights…makes the IR picture a bit more complex.
