VTOL VR

So I’ve been trying to figure this out for over an hour now. I can’t seem to get my voice commands to work. Things I do know:

  1. I’ve enabled and trained Windows Speech Recognition - it starts out in “Listening” mode, but as soon as I put the headset on in VR and the VTOL VR window is in focus, it goes into Sleep mode.

  2. I have Audio Input Device set to headset in Steam VR

  3. In my Audio panel I have Microphone (Steam Streaming Microphone) set to the default device.

  4. In VTOL VR I’ve tried Hot Mic and PTT and neither one seems to enable voice commands.

I’m stumped.

I had the same problem Chris. Evidently the Speech Recognition routine somehow gets disconnected from VTOL. The fix is to alt tab back to the desktop and then click on VTOL on the taskbar to bring it back into focus. You should find that fixes it.

I’ll give that a shot… Thanks!

I haven’t tried them. But in the audio settings they do test properly for me.

So do you guys have this window up all the time when Windows boots up? Is it up while you are playing VTOL VR?

I will be playing for a bit…I may have to hop off at some point…and may have to take a call (autopilot!)…

I don’t know if my voice comms/microphone is working…voice commands aren’t working. I’ve tried everything…

I loaded the Dynamic Liberation (Short) mission… This is my first MP session…so who knows…

Time now is 1415 GMT

Session ended. I will be back on this evening after soccer games…!

I have never seen that window before.

…but it gives me the creeps.

Also…I just got in. Home at 1700gmt

How else will our corporate overlords know what to populate my Amazon suggestions with…

In my session today…it became evident that I have no idea how to use the ARAD page and how and what all the symbols mean…

Chris, I was thinking about your mic issues and wonder if you weren’t having a simple problem that I and many gamers have; multiple audio inputs and outputs. Like you, I have Oculus for audio and mic. But I also the “High Definition Audio Device” that is built into the mobo. I have a headset connected to that which primarily my daughter uses. I can switch audio easily enough. But for mic, I occasionally must go to audio settings to change the “default” mic (input). This actually happened when I flew with Paul a few days ago. VTOLVR only recognizes whatever mic and audio Windows has listed as “default”.

Yes… I have only one mic plugged in (my Reverb G2)…but also see other inputs listed. In researching my problem, I saw exactly what you suggested…about setting the HMD mic as default…and I think I do. Can you confirm that on the Settings / audio/ test page in VTOL VR that when you say those phrases on the right pane that they turn green? My comms panel in the game has the green light. If it is hot mic it is orange until it hears my voice and then turns green. I just haven’t gotten any of the commands to work when playing missions…

Yep, same here. I have an entry for every type of audio output on my system. So default, both headphone jacks (which can double as mic jacks), Oculus, and SteamVR. It gets to be a pain to find which one is the right one some days.

Yep, the AI commands work pretty accurately.

Yes Chris, if the voice recognition is working when you test the mic, the phrases turn green when you say them.

OK. Mystery solved. Finally. Thankfully. So I had the right microphone selected…and while in VTOL VR I could see that the microphone levels were being picked up…but they wouldn’t turn the phrases green. So I took off my headset…was fiddling around…and said the phrases…and they turned green. Put it back on…no joy.

:bulb:

So stupid Win-Y thingy that I had never turned off was the culprit. The headset sensor was suspending the desktop input…and VTOL VR was detecting that (apparently) as a window out of focus or something.

So I’m in business. Thanks for all the assistance…!

It is the Norway liberation type map… no idea what it’s like. There is a possibility I’ll have to go on auto pilot and get off briefly… I may have to field a phone call…

I might be able to play in a couple of hours for a bit.

Unfortunately my daughter took over to play The Sims. Glad you got the mic sorted.
