I reset the session. It’s up now for anyone who wants to join.
Off to Europe. Hopefully some playtime this weekend.
Would love to have been…been on a brutal flight schedule this week…and no reprieve I think until Monday or something… 11 straight days. Still haven’t figured out what meal I’m supposed to be eating…
That’s seems to be the way it works… all or nothing! I head out tomorrow and I have a busy week ahead of me. The good news is that it ends with the airplane going down for a couple of weeks of scheduled MX.
Great to hear…! It definitely has a great feeling of immersion with all of the hand movement around the cockpit. I feel it most resembles real flying in many aspects…despite the mix of cool graphics (like the water surface) and the more basic blocky graphics…
In the AV-42 it’s on the collective and one of the hand controls buttons (top one on the Quest, not sure on other controllers).
That was kind of what I was afraid of, most solo rules fail to capture the opposed nature of combat.
On free flight 2 now. Chaff and Flares are dispensed in the VTOL with throttle controller button B , it seems.
Was happy to land on the oil rig, the LHD and the destroyer. Then I got a bit too ambitious and tried to refuel air-to-air and crashed in the tanker, ouch.
A2A refueling and I continue the contentious relationship we’ve had since Falcon 4 here in VTOL VR.
Two DLCs are on sale now as well, yeah:
[Edit]: I admit I’m a collector …
They are all worth buying. My personal favorite is still the F45, but each of the DLC aircraft bring something new to the table, plus, the DLC aircraft all have multi-crew capability, which is awesome.
I will run *something" in a bit. “Smokin’ Hole”, “mudspike”
I can’t wait to get back in the VTOL air. I’m swamped with work. Family visiting. Kai’s birthday. My last day shift is tomorrow…then I’m off for four or five days. Hallelujah…it has been a stretch…
Had my first solo success getting past the first airport in “Operation Liberation” without dying (Quick, 4 Players, “Low Intensity”). Unfortunately the F45 isn’t included. (Guessing that’s because it would be so dominant.) I’ve never used the editor but I imagine that this is an easy change to make. My conclusion is that the EF-24 is better suited to be a hang-way-back electronic rabble-rowser than an A2A mount. Despite its speed and 4 Aim-54s, either the radar or the missiles give it a shorter punch than the red fighters coming in waves to face it. @BeachAV8R’s trusty F-26 is the way to go. The 88s are far longer ranged than the DLZ cue indicates when lofted.
The AH-94 is perfect for clearing out the cities. It has a weapon I’ve never thought to use: the GBU-38. The bomb is equipped with a rocket that allows it to be fired from a low altitude hover where it then scoots off and glides onto the target. It is the only weapon that the helicopter can carry that can eliminate the many bunkers. Two helicopters can sweep up a city in 10 minutes.
I picked up a second copy of VTOL in the recent sale. I have set up a session on my laptop with the usual credentials. You will see a player called Mudspike Host that will just sit in the briefing room. I plan to leave the session running all day, so feel free to just hop on and fly a few missions.
Did some testing late last night, VTOL VR does model limited jamming arcs based on your roll and pitch in addition to azimuth. So if you’re Weasling or OECM’ing make sure to pay attention to which way you make your turns.
It definitely makes a difference. Your RCS is at a minimum when you are head on to the radar, which is great for ingress, but you will often be locked up and fired upon when you turn away.
I put another session up …
If it’s up this evening I might be around.
I have a session up. I’ll be away for a bit but if anyone wants to fly a few sorties please go ahead. I captured one base but there are a number of enemy fighters airborne, so a fighter sweep might be a good idea.
