Well Done! A "pat on your back" thread!

good job, it looks great, but also walking on these old bricks can be really uncomfortable. isnt the point of new things to provide some sort of comfort?

I mean each comrade has his own tastes but… just not my style

They are almost rounded, so on bare feet very comfortable. We leveled the fork out of them with the heavy machine that goes BRRR and it is one shiny bit o work. But you are right. It is rougher than factory fresh bricks. Would you believe that on day one I took out 750kg of very straight brickwork?

Like the man said; in matters of taste, the client is always right.

Did a custom metal fence and metal gate for a client, who had three fence panels already. You think we’d use the fence panels for the fence and build the gate right? I mean who in their right mind would do something different? Customer wanted those three panels made into a custom double gate, and the fence built from scratch. I have zero issues billing for doing it the long way, so we did exactly what he wanted.

21 years ago, at 19 years old I laced up a pair of boxing gloves for the first time with any intention of doing something other than messing around with my friends. That was the start of a journey through a wide variety of different arts, occidental, oriental, and parts in between. It led me to many people I call good friends, and given me the chance to punch a few people I couldn’t stand in the face.

A friend from my patrol officer days is now running our PAL boxing program at work, which if you’re not familiar PAL is a low/no cost athletic program for kids through the police department. We chatted, and I offered to come out and take some pictures for their social media, and when I was there I remembered how much I enjoyed boxing gym life. The PAL program is all volunteer with the staffing shortages we’re facing, we used to have assigned staff, now it’s a shoestring set of volunteers. They needed another coach, as they my friend was the only certified coach they have.

21 years after the first time I set foot in a boxing gym I got this:

Along with it comes the opportunity to positive influence the lives of the kids in the program, and work with some extremely talented juniors who may one day be on a pay-per-view.

Finished work at 0530.

Machines delivered 0800.

Had to completely assemble the big one. Smaller was 1 piece thankfully (i took the big hood and automatic spinner thing off it and changed all the wiring around to save space.

Bolted it all down and fitted my beacons and emergency lights on the front (with over excessive red flip guarded aircraft switches because WTF not)

Tested it all and worked first time thank christ. Just waiting for my compressor to arrive and BOOM.

Bolt in my 2 toolboxes and its off to fix tyres and lorries on the roadside in the rain.

But its mine.

Right I’m filthy and got to go back to work… shower

All tools fitted and working, need to bolt the GIGANTIC inverter down but thats a tomorrow problem and the ratchet strap holds it nicely for now.

Got my new compressor yesterday. Ordered a 130L reciever on it which is a little bit smaller than I would like bit it was £450 cheaper than the next size up.

Turned up on a pallet and I couldnt work out why it looked so big compared with the photos online. Took ALL my strength to get it in the van amd bolted down. Doing up the last bolt when noticed the service plate underneath. 150L

They sent the wrong one. Was gonna keep quiet and not say anything but thats not me, id be upset if it happened to me so called them and they said, send it back or keep it its up to you no charge either way…so i kept it. Super pleased. Great company

Workhorse, love that label. Good tools are such a joy.

I was very happy with my monster saw, a 32cm blade on a mount that swivels every conceivable way and makes for some superbly precise cuts.

Of course a little bit of wood jumped, made big horrible clang. The blade sang like a bell. And now it wobbles. Only slightly, and more pronounced at slow speed but still, unsettling. I do not want to be close to it if and when it comes apart at speed.

Now I’m no longer so happy with it. I need the precision cuts and the ease of making them. But I don’t feel like replacing the whole thing. I tried a few other blades on it and they also wobble at slow speed leading me to thw conclusion that the axis is frelled. Meh.

Moral of the story: cheap tools are expensive.

I used to be of the opinion “buy it cheap, buy it twice” but these days there are so many great budget options that forking out through the nose for a brand name is hard work.

Not so much a pat on the back as “wind up the wife”

I just replied with :love_you_gesture:

@jenrick it was TWPS WELDING SUPPLIES. I will definitely be using them again. Faultless.

Did a little breakdown on the way home from work this morning.
Got the call when i was about 20 mins from the yard so gave a 90 minute window to arrive and got there in 85!! First one in the bag!

Feeling pretty good to be fair.

How many of such calls do you need to make to get the van and equipment to pay for itself?

Depends on the jobs to be honest. A breakdown on a lorry in the middle of the night on a bank holiday might be £400 profit for 2 hours work.
But a puncture repair on someones driveway would make me £30

So its probably gonna take a year or so in honesty but with my night subcontracting work driving the business is growing rather than plunging down a cliff like it was before Christmas.

Dont want to curse it, but its a lot more solid than pulling planes around on trailers. Sub contracting pays for the van and kit, van and kit covers me if the subbing dries up temporarily or permanently. Its gonna be hard work doing 2 jobs again, but both are my own pace and stuff i am good at (and not subject to fuel price changes and being driven out of business by cowboy operators)
I should of done this years ago.
