What we hearing? - Mudspike plays (2020)

“Liebestod” from “Tristan und Isolde” sung by the immortal Jessye Norman

Bad Dreams by Teddy Swims. This guy would have made a mint in 70’s motown.

Late response here, but thanks for the great feedback. I mixed the album myself using methods that are definitely not professional hence the weird mix. But it came out sounding good to me and pretty much how I want it.

Since we are on the topic of dutch musicians, here’s my favorite dutch producer. Hailing from Rotterdam, ladies and gents, Ferry Corsten! (* Strobe warning *)

Hmmm…Dutch musicians? Only one I can think of is Andre Rieu.

Great song. One of our 11 year old twins is really into music and I just introduced her to the Rumours album. She asked for some Stones and AC/DC on vinyl for Christmas.

Strong nightwish vibes there with Epica.

They’re definitely contemporaries, and I know Simone Simons and Floor Jansen have appeared on each others’ songs or albums.

I decided to practice finger picking my guitar again. My kids are learning to play and I need to be able to show them a few things. Usually I am more of a flatpicker though (think Tony Rice, but ordered from Wish) so I am not good at it.

But I am still on my Beatles spree so this one became my first practice piece:

Oh so nice! :star_struck:

On the other hand- I must come clean… I swapped the Elite Dangerous soundtrack for this…

It’s moody, intense, powerful, eager, craving, elegiac, and dreamy.

Edit: or I am simply very very biased towards a game I loved to death

My kids ask dad, “What’s the best Beatles album?” There are a few, Revolver and Sgt Pepper, but I usually say The Beatles white album. So good. I remember pealing the cellophane off of the vinyl album when that sucker was released. I was only 11 and it cost a couple of weeks of paper route money, but had to have it. Dad, who was very much a Cold War warrior at the time, did not appreciate his son playing Back in the USSR on his Telefunken console.

Lots of must-learn guitar tracks on that one.

I like most of Back in the USSR, but I mildly dislike the “Beach Boys parts”, don’t know why.

As for best album: Right now I dig Magical Mystery Tour. But as @JediMaster said, it varies. I definitely haven’t settled.

The large changes from album to album make them each distinct. Even the singles from the corresponding period like Rain, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, I Feel Fine, etc always are recognizably linked to the albums recorded in the same sessions.

It’s pretty subjective as usually is the case when it comes to music but it can be argued that their albums from 1966-1970 were much more creatively mature and complex compared to their albums from the Beatlemania era.

But then again, that applies to pretty much all the artists who recorded in the 60’s. The music in the late 60’s was vastly different from the music in the early 60’s.

Yeah I guess it applies to most bands, they increase complexity over the years.

That makes the fact that sometimes simple songs of later eras are great and successful even more impressive.

I for example find Ringo’s song “Octopus’s Garden” really refreshing in its simplicity. Especially considering that it is on Abbey Road (1969).
