I’ve managed to get by without G-search for some time now (exception being the DCS forums’ horrible search engine).
Duck Duck Go (DDG) works fairly well and they have their own browser (that you can watch YT videos without ads with too). Now, it’s still the internet. I’m sure there are others.
DDG Browser reports an astonishing number of tracking attempts it is blocking (even from this site). Not enough time in the day to investigate all of this.
The War 102 podcast is a new series by Lt. Col Paul Darling that seeks to address important questions about the nature, role, and conduct of War as a human phenomenon.
Lt. Col. Darling is also the author of Taliban Safari, which is an excellent snapshot of one day in Afghanistan during the war, and expresses his controversial assessment on what was being done wrong there.
Sam Altman, the dude who’s pushing OpenAI so hard, is also investing hundreds of millions of dollars in a fusion startup (I chuckle just typing that out), and is helping provide a lot of the push for the startup SMR (Small Modular Reactor) companies. I have a very, very, VERY long rant about SMRs in general, and specifically with the startup culture around the companies claiming to be ready to build them, as well as the wider ramifications for the energy industry and grid resources. But that’s for a whole other series of posts for other outlets.
Oh, and a whole other series of podcasts. if anybody’s interested, I can share some of those too.
DDG is basically bing with some privacy ensuring measures/fairy dust (depending on where you’re standing) on top. I use it too, but I’m not particularly impressed with its results.
I spent the weekend working with a friend who’s a literal nazi hunter, and he turned me on to this podcast.
It’s absolutely engrossing, and I can’t believe that so much of this history has gone so unknown for so long- it’s definitely a cautionary tale. I started listening on the drive home from Flat Rock yesterday, and I haven’t been able to listen to anything else.
