Not quite nsfw
But looking forward to it
I cannot wait for season 3. Its gonna be epic
LOL, Homelander actor was arrested in Spain for assault on a cook…
Life imitates art
Edit: a 12 months sentence apparently!

So far I don’t like the new season of upload as much as the first one, but it is decently entertaining.
Looking forward to Picard S2, I liked the first season a lot.
In other news: I’m still on the Disney spree. Watched Encanto with the family. It was OK. Not my favourite but fine.
Just watched Red and it’s an absolute joy! Loved every second of it.
I liked Encanto a lot, more for the animation style than for the songs or theme overall.
A powerful decision to place it in that historical context…
Watched The Adam Project last night with the wife. Really enjoyed it and it really tugged at the heart.
One of the reason I wanted to have Netflix, but we already pay for Disney + and Amazon Prime so…
Lol its such a pain isnt it.
I have netflix, amazon prime, disney, audible (that one is £2.00 a month as i have a temper tantrum every 3 months and threaten to leave if they put it up) and x box gamepass. Oh and the TV license for bbc (which i refused to pay but my dork of a wife “felt guilty”
Its a serious amount of money.
Yeah the songs were the weak spot for me in Encanto. Not for the style, which I like, but because of how fast and unintelligible the lyrics are. They are not very easy to listen to or sing.
But then I don’t like the singing in Disney movies anyway.
I think one the reasons why Frozen was so successful is that the songs in it are very catchy and good to understand.
I like when the Rock sings in Vaiana/Moana.
The singing in Disney Movies is translated to dozens of languages. That’s what makes it a bit goofy at times. Imagine writing a song that rhymes in ALL languages! Almost a mathematical problem, lol. And where the hell do they find the singer that can do it all?? Is it a real person?
Nice flex:

Oh the streaming services pain. Amazon has me locked in because it offers so many things in one product. But Netflix can be consumed for one or two months a year and then cancelled again. Easy.
Edit: That’s the one! Love it

I just added HBO to the mix. Ill drop disney before the others tho, then amazon. But I aint done hovering up all of the star wars
Lets count. Regular cable tv costs about 30 here. 14+8+3+4+4=33. Huh. But that gets me all the stuff I actually want without paying for sports that I don’t watch. Still call it a good deal.
I really never use prime, but wife is doing her best to turn our house into an amazon warehouse so it does pay for itself. But the streaming is not my thing.
I love netflix, thats a keeper. Disney is great for star wars and the kids enjoy it.
We’re sharing subscriptions. Netflix is my wife’s, Disney+ is my brother’s, HBO Max we get free for our Internet plan so my siblings have my login, and Amazon Prime is mine from the Veterans day discount.
And I think the Hulu is from my other brother’s ex or something.
Gotta adapt and overcome.
Moana (fun fact: It is called Vaiana here) is also one of my favourites in recent times, for several reasons.
As for the songs: those are different singers, but they usually pick ones with similar voices.
And actually they often throw away parts of the rhymes and/or the meaning of the text as long as they can get it halfway lip synchronous.
Now and then I talk to people who complain about the German songs. Germans love to complain.
Some say that Disney should only use the English originals (good luck, children hate that) or they come up with “better” German versions of the songs, and usually their “better” versions are crap.
I am relatively good at English and I make music, and I do know some of the songs well (I have a daughter who loves Frozen). Of course I have tried, just for laughs, but so far I have been unable to find better translations that
The Disney song translators for German are GREAT.
Other languages have it way worse, the Japanese songs for example are often completely different in meaning.
Sensory overload?
I’ve “had” to watch Encanto 3 times with my family. It grows on you after a while. Or more likely, the songs are more familiar.
That was our family movie this past Saturday night. My wife baited me with, “It’s about a fighter pilot of the future.” Regardless, I was hooked after a few minutes and also really enjoyed it. I wonder why it doesn’t rate more than a 69 on Rotten Tomatoes.
Haha, yeah. There’s SO much going on in every scene. You could watch it at half speed and encounter something new every time. It is really detailed.
Actually I had to stop it a few times to explain a few things to my (non-spanish speaking) family.
Such as who the hell is Casita and why Abuela is called that way, and half a dozen other Spanish words or Latin American habits that are just dropped on the audience without any explanation.
I guess we are not the target audience.
And to re-iterate over what feels like 20 characters that are introduced in a song that is very fast.
And to explain what happened to Abuelo (Pedro or something?). The newer Disney movies are a lot more vague than earlier ones. We don’t see him get killed, the symbolism eluded my kids. Just like the parents’ deaths in Frozen.
And of course to laugh about the scenes with one of our favorite animals, the Capybara. And other animals, too.
Half of the songs aren’t translated to German at all btw. Probably not to English either?
It was really entertaining. Definitely going to watch it again. But Raya was way easier to follow.
No, but Spanish is very much part of the US lexicon, with so many Latin cultural influences, Cuban in Miami, Mexican in Texas and California, and it being popular subject high school through college. My kids have had a Peruvian nanny and are naturally inquisitive, so they had no trouble. Probably my wife needs some help, since she studied French, but otherwise we probably absorbed most of the film without thinking too much about the language.
LOL, yeah, growing up in Florida I have no trouble with those Spanish references. Playing games like GR Wildlands or Far Cry 6 I understand all the ambient Spanish for the most part, only miss words here or there but more than enough to get along.
Don’t ask me to speak it, I can translate in my head TO Spanish far more slowly than I can FROM Spanish, but around here most Spanish speakers understand English well enough that you can talk to them in English and they talk to you in Spanish and everyone gets on fine.
Few more episodes down. I’ve never had a problem with Toto. What I do have a problem with is watching that first corner at the start of EVERY F1 RACE! Little bit of rain and they all plow into eachother like a bunch of amateurs!!!
