The first two Alien films are timeless sci-fi classics that can be watched over and over. Everything after that is forgettable trash. However I have not seen Romulus yet so I can’t comment on that one.
Enterprise is a good show, but if for some reason it had been the first ST series (as it is chronologically) ST would never have become a phenomenon as it was. I still enjoyed it, however, and in fact more the 2nd time around then when it first aired.
I would recommend showing the best TOS episodes like City on the Edge of Forever, Space Seed, etc that showed the best of the early Kirk/Spock/McCoy run. I’m sure you can find good lists out there of the top 10 TOS eps or top 20 or whatever.
Likewise with TNG you don’t need to watch them all if you don’t wish to, there are also good lists there but things like Best of Both Worlds, Unification, Reunion, The Drumhead, etc are top ST.
Of course Strange New Worlds season 0 is Discovery Season 2. That’s where we meet Pike, Una, and Spock as well as see the Enterprise the first time. S1 of SNW calls back to it several times.
I am going to do the same soon, I was shocked to hear that my wife hasn’t seen Alien either.
My 44 year old wife has yet to see any of the original three Star Wats films so I feel your pain!
Currently watching ST:TNG with my eldest. Both me and my wife are huge TNG nerds, and we’re going all-in on pulling our son back from the dark side of Star Wars to the light that is Fully Automated Gay Space Communism. He’s starting to warm up to it, saw him trying a Riker maneuver today…
I absolutely bloody love TNG.
Me too. Another thing that my wife had never watched, now we are in season 5.
Probably DS9 after that.
the nearest I could get the wife to star wars was the mandalorian … and that was only because of grogu … and the only star trek she would watch is the new films, because of Karl urban
The bluray remasters of TOS and TNG are absolutely awesome.
Too bad they took so long doing them that by the time they finished TNG the market dropped out and they calculated that doing it for DS9 and Voyager wouldn’t make a profit.
I did get my wife to watch BSG (the one for adults) and Firefly so I give credit where credit is due.
Yeah, I was really sad when I learned that DS9 BluRays were not happening.
Dr. Strangelove on Prime
I’ve heard about it all my life but never bothered to watch. Dark, quirky and quite funny. I don’t think it could be made today in America. It’s a credit that it could be in 1963 at the height of the cold war and the beginning of Vietnam and the battle for civil rights. Also, unexpected for me since I did no research before watching, James Earl Jones has a nice role as the bombardier who sends Slim Pickens off for his final ride.
Dr. Strangelove is one of Kubrick’s top 5 films in my opinion and concerning James Earl Jones, his very first film role ever was on Dr. Strangelove.
Managed to watch Terminator zero and it left me a bit… meh.
It’s visually very very appealing- just maybe I heard too much praises about it?
I felt the overall narrative arch tried a bit too hard to shock.
I don’t like anime style. I mean, I really do not like it.
I understand some of the stories are good, but I’m instantly put off and can’t get into them because of the visuals.
I have now tried twice to watch the TRON series on Disney+ and keep stopping. I’ve thought about trying to watch the Terminator one or the Blade Runner one, but haven’t been able to bring myself to try.
Thats a shame. I felt it was a wonderful addition to the universe of terminator.
I enjoyed it more than most things I’ve seen this year! But its interesting to hear other people’s opinions on it as well
I can understand that. I’m not a huge fan of the style either but love the stories of a great deal of them
I’ll give you this- I enjoyed very much the explanation of the time not being a straight line. That was a fresh and welcome addition, plus allows us to beilieve what we want about the movies’ canonicity.
That was amazing wasn’t it.
That was - and I don’t use this word lightly- Clever
