One thing that I’ve found with older classic films is that while the plot and dialogue are very good, the acting is often too theatrical. You can clearly see the shift to a more naturalistic method of acting as the 20th century progressed.
I recall all the times in those cartoons we watched growing up when the characters would do Shakespeare and they would overact so much that William Shatner would say “tone it down, will you?”
I have been slowly working my way through them and watched the first 6 episodes now (40k is episode 5, but I had to watch that first).
Even though I haven’t played most of the games they are based on, They have all been really good… so far.
Arnie is a hoot in the New World episode and Circle is a very interesting take on PAC-MAN.
Went and saw the third Sonic movie tonight with the family. Kids loved it. Wife eye rolled. I actually thought it was decent. I am not a fan of Jim Carry, but he actually did good work here. There were a few jokes I actually laughed out loud at. 3.5 stars out of 5.
Neither am I. But I do rate him in the Truman Show.
Quality time with family 5 stars out of 5.
Jim Carrey was great in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. With Kate Winslet.
Not a comedy.
I had forgotten that. It is basically the only other Jim Carrey movie I can watch.
Which is probably why I don’t don’t mind him in those films? I don’t think he is funny.
I watched Sonic 3 on Saturday with my family since my son was dying to see it.
From my perspective it was funny seeing “Teddy” from Westworld in it and I found it odd how the blonde and blue eyed Anglo girl who befriends one of the aliens was named “Maria”. I have never in my lifetime met a Maria who was not Hispanic.
Season 2 of SAS Rogue Heroes is streaming on BBC iPlayer (VPN required to get around geoblocking).
Not as good as Season 1 IMHO, but along with shows such as Kelly’s Heroes, Jarhead, Full Metal jacket, etc is a far more accurate depiction of ‘Army life’ than 99% of so called ‘based on a real story’ films.
Yay!
Good so far.
I’ve never lived in Austria! ![]()
No, but living in an area with a vast Hispanic population definitely skews your experience.
It’s overrated.
And SoM is about as Austrian as a Corndog.
No musical is authentic, really.
Yeah I was sorely disappointed when I found out that Nirvana music didn’t exist in 1900 Paris after I watched Moulin Rouge.
Nor in Sweden, I take it? ![]()
Maria is a rather common name there.
