What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Hahaha, I did think that scene was strangely gruesome, but the Kevin Cline is seen again covered in concrete hanging on the side of the plane so… Overall so funny.

Sunray: Fallen Soldier

Formulaic British action/revenge film about an ex Royal Marine who enlists the help of his ex-Marine mates to go on a vengeance binge following the death of his daughter.

What sets it apart and adds a degree of authenticity to the action sequences is that the actors playing the Marines are all former Royal Marines.

There are worse ways way to sit back & turn your brain off for an hour and a half if you have Apple TV.

So you are saying that they have a very particular set of skills, skills acquired over long careers?

Yeah, but like Liam, these guys could also act…

There was a movie from a few years ago (I forget the name), had actual serving SF (SEAL’s IIRC) playing the roles and the action scenes were phenomenal but the acting was so wooden a piece of 4x2 could have done a better job.

Definitely on my desert island list. Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Michael Palin are pure comic genius. Kline won a well deserved Oscar for best supporting actor. Cleese must have been pleased with how well it was received. I know that it’s cliche, but 37 years later I can’t hear or read the name Ken without thinking, Don’t you mean Ka, Ka, Ka, Ken? Palin and Kline played that scene so brilliantly. Sorry to get so nostalgic.

Acting is also a particular set of skills. I would say there are a lot fewer good actors than there are good soldiers!

On a related note, it always greatly impressed me people who were great musicians AND great actors. David Bowie comes to mind.

My daughter turned me on to this one. Most of us know the Shackleton expedition. If you do, you may well not learn anything new here. But you will see what you know brought to life in remarkable detail (with a little help from AI). Two parallel stories are told in a way that makes them seem divinely matched: the ill-fated expedition and the almost ill-fated search to find its wreck. If time is precious, skip to the last 15 minutes and see how incredibly well the ship was preserved and digitally archived down to the millimeter. Streams on Disney and Hulu.

That one is also one of the great ones…

Y. Kotto: “I’M MOSLEY!” I laugh every time I think of that scene!

Absolutely!
I’m amazed how the whole cast is just perfect. The chemistry between all of them is unbelievable.

God I love Midnight Run. And who would’ve guessed it has a Danny Elfman soundtrack?

Hehe I know right? I have it saved as a Playlist on Spotify. Can’t put my finger on it but it’s uplifting.

Oh and that movie gave me a long life passion for Lyonnaise Potatoes. :yum:

Not a movie, but a TV show we binged so hard it might as well have been a movie. This is called “Silo” on apple TV. Post apocalyptic civilization that lives in, well, a silo. SO well written, acted, and directed we just could not stop watching. Binged both seasons in about a week. Highly recommend.

Yes, we enjoyed it too. I’m now reading the first of the three books it is based on.
