What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

I have a cousin who is profoundly deaf (i.e. zero % hearing) and has been since birth. Her and her deaf friends are the kindest and funniest people I have ever met. Such a totally different outlook to the rest of us… I can ‘speak’ reasonable AUSLAN because of her. But being told to ‘■■■■ off’ is universal in just about any language I reckon? ‘I’m dumb, not dumb!’: is another that still tickles me

I am going to have to watch this.

One thing I learned is that deaf people and people with bad hearing don’t mix well.

Deaf persons have no idea how much noise they make, like rattling with cutlery. While the ones with bad hearing or hearing aids need it quiet so they can focus on a conversation.

I remember seeing this in the movie theater with my first “real” girlfriend when I was in high school. Ah the memories!

Keep in mind that stuff on streaming often doesn’t stay available forever. Content often gets pulled.

To my disappointment, the version on D+ is the original theatrical release. In my opinion the Director’s Cut with the original ending is much more impactful, and I prefer it. So if you have that version on DVD, hold onto it.

I absolutely will. The ending makes so much sense.

I’m just sad the actors were pushed so uncomfortably much.

James Cameron is a workaholic perfectionist. Actors know what they are getting into when they sign up for one of his films!

Ed Harris apparently didn’t.

I’ve read that Micheal biehn wanted to smack him a few times as well

Heh, and that says a lot since Cameron and Biehn worked on 4 films together!

Yeah but the abyss was something else entirely. Production hell doesnt even cover that amazing film. It must have been very testing times for everyone

It seems movies centered/set in an aquatic environment usually equals production hell. The infamous story behind the making of “Waterworld” is very well known

I only saw it at theatrical release a billion years ago…and again just one hour ago. It holds up beautifully until the last five minutes. The surfaced UTI was peak “meh” following nearly two hours of wow.

Ahh that’s a shame. I always remembered that bit being awesome
