I just watched the first two episodes of Murderbot.
It is OK. I want to love it because it is very close to the book (one notable change is that Murderbot knows exactly how many humans it has been ordered to kill, which is why it decides that it is a ‘Murderbot’ after hacking its governor module), but, this adaptation just lacks a ‘certain something’ that I got form the books.
Still early days, and coming off the back of watching Andor, anything else would have to be very special indeed to get me raving at the moment.
Not my idea but some friends of my wife’s from work wanted to see “Final Destination: Bloodlines”. That is nearly 2 hours of my life I won’t get back. I did however get a good laugh from some of the really absurd ways people got killed.
Last year Prime had a doco on the Blue Angels, which was quite good. I’m sure that if you scroll up you will find the post about it.
Netflix has just dropped one for the Thunderbirds.
Far be it for me to say who is the better display team. But wow, this is probably the best show I have ever seen about aviators at the top of their game. It normally kind of grates when I hear the US claiming that they are the “best in the world” at something… But in this case, I will give it to you.
The executive producers were unexpected. But I’m not surprised.
I just read that the Wheel Of Time show was canceled.
I am sad, I am a fan of the book series and I liked the show despite its flaws. Season 3 was also a real improvement over the first two.
I read that by season four it was going to bring the total cost to $1B, making it the most expensive TV property in history. Bezos has a boat and a president to support. Even his money is finite.
This is great documentary filmmaking. I like simple subjects that illuminate or educate well outside the narrow boundaries which at first stroke defines them. (See John McPhee’s “Oranges” for an extreme example.) This film makes you love deaf people BECAUSE they are deaf. They are better (well, at least more expressive,) humans because of how they communicate. I recommend this especially if you are looking for something funny and uplifting. And if you were alive in the 80s and have kids, this is a great way to give them a taste of what life was like when phones required two hands.
