Thought it was a great movie! Duvall is one of my favorite actors.
Robert Duvall was outstanding as Robert E. Lee in “Gods & Genersls”.
Robert Duvall liked the smell of Napalm in the morning.
His perfect delivery of „One day this war is gonna end“ sticks to my brain like pine sap.
It reminds me of the Robert E. Lee quote recorded by a British journalist in the middle of a battle (paraphrasing): “It is well that war is so terrible. Otherwise we should grow fond of it.” Duval plays his line just on the sad side of indifference. Yep. His performance is masterful.
and if you get the chance, watch Duvall in the movie ‘The Great Santini’.
It’s outstanding imho.
On a bit of a (coincidental) golf ‘jag’ at the moment.
I have been watching ‘Stick’, I like golf and I like Owen Wilson and so far I am 3/4 of the way through it and will watch to the end. 3.5/5 from me.
Just today I watched ‘Happy Gilmore 2’. For the record, I’m not really a fan of Adam Sandler but the first Happy Gilmore actually made me laugh in a couple of places so I thought I would give this a chance. If anything I liked it better than the first, even if it does recycle a lot of the same ‘jokes’. Another 3.5/5 for me… including his real family seemed like a nice touch rather than nepotism so I gave it an extra 0.5. Solid 5/5 for all the cameos, I honestly lost count until the credits,
Stick worked for me. Maybe it’s an American thing. The world is such **** and we had a hand in making it so. Ted Lasso was similar. At the end of the pandemic, we Americans loved it. The rest of the world thought it was a hokey pile of sap.
Sometimes a hokey pile of sap is exactly what we need
I watched Happy Gilmore 2 last night on Netflix. At this time Netflix is your only option to watch the movie. Anywhoo, if you enjoyed the first Happy Gilmore this sequel should have plenty of new and nostalgic moments to make it worth giving at least one viewing.
If you want to watch Happy Gilmore and Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix then you need to do it before July 31st because that is when Netflix is dropping the original Happy Gilmore from it lineup.

I thought Ted Lasso was excellent, and I am looking forward to what they do with season 4. Stick hasn’t really grabbed me for some reason.
Whereas, Ted Lasso didn’t really grab me… But imagine how boring life would be if we all liked the same thing
I do find the kids in Stick (Santi & Zero) a bit annoying. But then again I find Millennials → the current generation generally annoying… I’m sick of them calling me ‘Boomer’ when I’m a Gen X goddamnit & yeah, I’m getting old.
Us Gen-Xers need to stick together - we didn’t start the fire!
There’s a season 4 planned? Season 3 ended on such a perfect note (I mean: Hey!—the airline pilot got the boss!). I thought they tied a nice bow around the story arc.
They originally said that season 3 was the end, but evidently filming for season 4 started earlier this month.
This just popped up on my ‘radar’
Trailer looks interesting, gave me some Das Boot meets Apocalypse Now vibes?
I was hit by that trailer yesterday too.
On one hand, production values are through the roof. It looks and sound absolutely beyond anything I’ve ever seen before.
That said, I am still elaborating about the whole concept of “sending a single Tiger tank on a long distance mission behind enemy lines”
Doesn’t make any sense.
Makes perfect sense if you consider that there is only like … what one, or two actual operational Tigers.
But to keep it realistic. It is a ‘War movie’ and it doesn’t have to make any sense at all
Eeh… Das Boot made sense, and in a certain way Private Ryan too.
I’m not going to call out every tiny mistake but the mechanical failure rate of the Tiger’s transmission makes it somewhat of an odd choice for that type of things.
Maybe I am just being unbearable, as I did very much like Fury…
Tell you what - I will watch it for sure, and I will try to like it too at the best my suspension of disbelief allows. It did a good job with a lot of war movies so…
That was TIC, but I have seen dumber orders given. Some general has a brain fart while shaving in the morning and the rest is history…
I am more interested in how they portray the Waffen SS as much as it being a ‘Tank movie’. And since you mentioned Fury… I really hope this isn’t cast in the same mould because I actually hated that movie.
? I don’t know this…
Ahahah agree with that!
I hope so too, for two reasons.
1- I don’t want this movie to be a te-skin of something I have already seen. So no Tank Boot, no Saving Private Tiger, no Furien bitte.
2-even if I liked Fury I am not blind to the pretty massive shortcomings of the whole thing. It could have had some much better writing.
So… can’t wait! Plus I already know sim-players are going to recreate scene with our Il2 BoX and DCS and whatnot. And usually they are amazingly hilarious.
