What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

That whole sequence is hilarious. What a time the 70s was (I witnessed my parents going through all that…LOL…as a child born in 1971)…

“JoannA…there’s an A on the end of that…”

“There was once just a Joanne…”

“There was also a Joan once…”

In anticipation of Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail, I watched “Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World”, and simply loved it! I felt like I had seen parts of it before but not the entire movie. I was actually annoyed at myself for not seeing it before…

Well worth a watch over the holidays lads!

Concur, absolutely brilliant!

That should have been the start of a long running franchise. So sad that never happened. I adore Aubrey and Maturin as characters.

It is a really good movie and they get a lot of things right about ships that other movies don’t, even minor stuff (people told me. I am not an expert for that age, or ships in general).

You mean “with Maximus, Vision, Peregrine Took (Pippin), and Jarvis.”

Thanks for the reminder. Just added book 7 to the Audible library. I have been away from the series for a while, but having relocated near the coast, the timing is perfect. And will fire up the film for sure, when the extended family arrives for the holidays. It’s outstanding!

Glad you all concur! The movie is special in so many ways, but the twist and the fact they are practically dog-fighting (on the high-seas over a prolonged period of time) with an unseen adversary, is something I’m surprised we don’t see more of in conflict movies. This movie makes you think.

That’s the benefit of basing it on a good book and not just writing it from scratch for the film.

Not that good films aren’t made that way, but it’s harder than with a book that is out there and many have read and see as a good source. When a script is made up, the list of people who see it before it’s filmed is tiny by comparison, and it’s harder for them to get it right.

Just finished watching the new Star Wars.
I liked it. Not WOW but not bad either IMO.

Not at the movies…but on Netflix. Because I have three preadolescent kids having a sleepover… Curiously, the shark appears to only have four heads. Something tells me it won’t have any cool introspective moments where Quint and Hooper compare shark scars…and then he tells the Indianapolis story.

The fifth head is the tail.
Obviously…

That said… there’s the poor-man version of Kit Harington…

That art where the shark jumps out of the water to get the helicopter…I thought, “This was no boating accident!”

…oops, sorry…SPOILERS.

That should be in Visual Jokes really - the bit where it grabbed the helicopter bought back visions of Batman and his shark repellent bat spray.

You’re gonna need a bigger helicopter

Watched Spitfire on @Kinger’s suggestion last night and man is it beautiful. The background story is amazing and is a tear jerker. I couldn’t help but jump in both the DCS and GB Spits in the Reverb afterward.
