Two big things stand out for me about the 1984 Dune film: the visual design and sets were fantastic and the credits scene always stuck with me.
The casting was also a high point, seeing how famous a lot of those faces later became. Over the years, I’ve found that there’s a very real love/hate relationship with that version of the film, and I’m one of the ones who enjoys the visual appeal of it vice the botching of the story and concept put forth by the novels. But I’ll add in an extra bit of heresy: I don’t think Dune was that good of a novel, either.
Definitely on the sentimental sappy side but it did bring back memories of some of the issues like nuclear disarmament of the era. I enjoyed the movie in 1985 and somewhat more so now that I am nearer the ages of the principles of the movie because their current life situations are more relatable to me now since I was the age of the granddaughter when the movie came out.
The last time Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr worked together. Their other pictures were:
Heaven Knows, Mr Allison, The Sundowners, & The Grass is Greener. Of the three I can only guarantee that I have seen Heaven Knows, Mr Allison. Been a long time since I saw Heaven Knows too but imo it was a good picture.
Finally watched it too and I loved it.
Somewhat inaccurate by someone who studied exactly that story professionally* but a masterful film.
I still think Rush looks more like a realistic approach, but maybe it’s just the filmography.
*Shelby role in the racing push is grossly exaggerated.
I have never seen any of the episodes of I Spy before yesterday so it is going to be a new experience for me. I found all three seasons on Amazon Prime and just like Mission Impossible it is interesting to see how different things were back then. No cell phones, no camera in every building, etc. I have seen the first episode and I did enjoy it but all the things that would not work now because of our technology is extremely obvious.
Prior to a couple of days ago, I had only seen the Ironman movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we found the list of movies and are watching them in order. So far we’ve seen:
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Iron Man movies were the best. Captain America was terrible. Thor and Hulk were middling… It is fun to watch them though…mindless entertainment. And Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2…wow…hottest redhead ever.
Looks like we watch Avengers tonight and Iron Man 3 the following night.
I have to admit that I’m hooked. The continuing tension building as who in the train wreck family will get it next, has me coming back for more. Every event is a worst case scenario, like someone going bipolar at the worst possible moment. A winner IMHO.
Yeah even though I feel S3 is not as strong it’s only because the story writing was SO exceptional the first two seasons. That doesn’t mean S3 is a slouch in and of itself though.
Hulk was awful compared to the first Capt America. However, Capt America 2 and 3 blow that one away.
Thor 2 could’ve been a lot better, but Thor 3 definitely is the best of the 3.
I’m torn between IM2 and Capt America 1 being lesser. While Cap has its flaws, it’s essential to the MCU. IM2 is almost unnecessary besides the Black Widow intro.
I have all the Marvel movies except Hulk, the 2 Ant Man films, and Capt Marvel. I have Disney + though so I can see all of them. Not Hulk, but you don’t need that one at all. If it wasn’t for Ross and the post-credit scene with Tony it would be completely forgotten. Avengers 1 tells you all you need to know about Banner.
