Max and Jinx, friends for-everrrrrrr
We watched Super-8 tonight. Wow…what a great movie for a child of the late 70s and early 80s like me. The music, the props, scenery…fantastic…
Stranger Things is almost the TV version of Super 8, but instead of aliens its secret gov’t labs.
I really liked Sam Rockwell in Moon.
Yeah, both are really good nostalgic type of movies. Always reminds me of the film “The Goonies.”
Yeah…that was the vibe I got out of it too. The music in Super-8 was just so awesome…I had to play the whole YouTube list of them. The language in the film was quite salty for a PG-13 movie…but my kids loved it. The “gang” in the film reminded me so much of my little group of friends growing up. I guess every gang has that crazy pyro guy that is a little special…LOL…
Still have yet to see Super 8 and I loved Stranger Things.
The Syfy Channel has been playing The Goonies quite often lately, along with the Harry Potter, John Wick, and Fast and Furious movies.
OK maybe I’m the only one but…
YEAH BABY! This looks like a complete winner!
I’m a large fan of the books, read them all through multiple times. I also have both the film and miniseries on DVD.
I’m eager to see how they’ve done this one, and I hope they get to make more of them especially as this film won’t cover all of book 1 from what i understand.
Sounds like it’s gun’ be gud! I <3 Dune with a passion and hollywood has… well frankly ducked it up so far. If anyone can do it right, its Denis Villeneuve, and that article stems me hopeful. I found his Arrival a very good film indeed. Good in way that Dune needs as well. Thoughtful.
To be fair, it was over 35 years ago for the first one and 20 years since the miniseries. Plus the miniseries probably had a smaller budget than the film made 15 years earlier.
I liked Arrival and I have BR 2049 (and the first one) on DVD. If anyone can do it well, it should be him. Possibly Peter Jackson could have done it, but he’s never expressed interest in it and I think this is a property that needs total investment.
I often wonder what Ridley’s Dune would’ve turned out like instead, but we will never know.
Frank Herbert’s “Dune” is my favorite Sci-Fi book(s) of all time. And I read a lot of science fiction.
Didn’t see the original Dune movie but have the Sci-Fi Channels mini-series in my personal collection like you. Was looking to get a digital copy but could not find any. I really like that mini-series and thought they did a pretty good job telling the story.
While it doesn’t adhere to the book in many ways, the 1984 film shouldn’t be missed. The acting is overall better than the miniseries (which had few good ones in a sea of mediocre ones), the music was iconic, and the visuals unique. It looks more like you’d expect it to appear, with the miniseries being more the stage play. ![]()
Neither is the definitive adaptation, hopefully the new one will be.
…the scene with Sting in a leather Speedo…not one of my favorites…still gives me the creeps.
I think it was fiberglass, not leather. It looked like it.
Creepy as Peking duck in a clown getup tho.
Fiberglass??!! Ouch! That can leave little glass fibers that could poke him in the “you know where”…talk about “Sting” being an appropriate name ![]()
It really explains his vehemence when he shouts “I WILL kill him!!” though.
He was referring to his tailor, not Paul.
my dream…bear with me here.
is Dune directed by Luc Besson in a similar style to “The Fifth Element”
Having seen Arrival by Denis Villeneuve, I reckon Dune is in fine hands.
I watched 2017s IT and the 2nd part of it because I have fond memories of being bewildered and mildly grossed out by the book in my young years, but well… Horror as a movie genre is not for me.
