What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Tropic Thunder

I did not realize I had watched the movie so recently. (July 13, 2020)
May be why it was just OK and nothing special this time around.

One of my favorite movies. Right behind Superbad, The Blues Brothers, and Police Academy. :+1: :+1:

Felt like being nostalgic tonight.

Buddy Hackett on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (Airdate: 08/27/1987)

Buddy Hackett on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson - Part 2 (Airdate: 08/27/1987)

Joan Rivers on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show (FULL INTERVIEW, 1986)

The duck joke by Hackett in part 2 was just hilarious. Seeing Joan really get Johnny with one of her jokes was almost too much to bear. Seeing him lose it when someone really made him laugh was always a joy to watch.

I do miss all of them.

New Drive to Survive out on Netflix. I’m 4 episodes in. Very binge worthy. It’s getting me pumped for F1 this year…

Saw this over the weekend. If you’re a fan of Motown music, this is a must see. Chronicles the band of musicians that played for all the greats!

with quite a big name cast …

I have never watch a DC or Marvel based film that I enjoyed. I love sci-fi. But for some reason superhero stuff just doesn’t strike a cord.

Part of the fun of having a foreign spouse is that you can introduce them to the obvious. I haven’t seen Dances With Wolves (Netflix for the rest of the month I think) since it released 30 years ago. Still holds up. Still amazing.

With me it does strike a chord, but the wrong one  I loathe that stuff. I love all of the ingredients, just not the mix.

Here’s a very strange one from my childhood.

It’s called Fantastic Planet, and I saw it as a double feature with Jane fonda’s movie, Barbarella, a zillion years ago.

FANTASTIC PLANET: FULL MOVIE

My impressionable wittle mind was amazed at the the imagination of the art and music, plus the unique weirdness of it all.

I can easily say I’ve never seen anything like it before or since.

It’s definitely stuck with me, and seeing a Barbarella review on Youtube brought it to mind again and sent me on a search to find it.

OMG! The great Gary Whitta is pitching the sequel to “The Last Starfighter”!
That can be seen for free here!

Had forgotten about Windows RG Edition

Haven’t watched yet but will be when it shows up on Netflix. An interesting side to this, Scott Manley of YouTube fame had a small part in consulting for this film. See one of his episodes below explaining. Pretty neat IMHO. I always enjoy watching his stuff.

First, trailer for the movie coming up on Netflix.

Second, Scott Manley’s episode explaining his small part in consulting for the creators of the film.

For the last few years I’ve been answering questions and offering suggestions to Joe Penna & Ryan Morrison, creators behind the forthcoming movie ‘Stowaway’. It’s a story of a trip to Mars which goes wrong when an extra crew member ends up on board, leading to some serious drama. The movie is released on April 22nd, but a trailer has just been released which gives me a few things to talk about regarding the design of the spacecraft and the mission plan.–Scott Manely

Started a nice series on Netflix last weekend called “Halt & Catch Fire”. I’m 54 now and started my computing career around 1987 so I’m totally and nostalgically in tune with this show! Awesome!

I hope this is nothing like The Cold Equations. That little story always depressed me.

I liked the first 6 or 7 episodes of Halt and Catch Fire. Got bored with the story after that. That nearly always happens to me, though.

I watched Halt and Catch Fire when it originally aired. Pretty good series, imo. It found its legs after the first season though.

Nice. AFAIC, Halt and Catch Fire had legs after the first episode. Total nostalgia. We even had a nice looking female programmer in our group at the consulting firm I was working for. Her name was Elfriede … we called her Elfy. She was awesome.
