What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

To clarify: I agree with all you write.

I have to watch Top Secret again, it was kind of similar

“There are no good white basketball players.”

If everybody had a surfboard, and a shotgun too…

“It seems that you have become, how do you say, indispensable?”

“Indispensable.”

“That’s what I thought.”

One of the great 80s comedies that is infinitely quotable. They literally do not make them like this anymore and more’s the pity.

And the fire fight in the Resistance house was as well an absolute joy!

Rainbow 6 the book? That monstrous tome of awesomeness needs a full series. No remorse, could be the prequel or a flashback.
That way they have at least 2 series ready to rock and roll plus they could do the Domingo and Vega back story as well. How he met John etc.

I fricking love those books. So much material if done properly.

Ooh you could even do Popov’s early days as a spook as well.

I started off really uncomfortable with this being turned into a TV show. Now I just think they should let me have a crack at it. Lol

They were going to do Cardinal of the Kremlin until the 90s thaw made the studio heads think no one would want to see a film about the now-defunct KGB.

That plus no one wanted to make an 80s period film in the 90s.

Remember the excellent mini-series Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy (adaptation of Le Carres novel)?
Would love to see someone take the time and do that to Cardinal of the Kremlin - probably my favorite Clancy novel.

Like Karen Greer, a female Navy SEAL?! I’m not against the idea … I just don’t think it’ll ever happen, esp. a Lt Cdr.

Was that a SEAL team, though? Contracted to the CIA and so secret they didn’t know eachothers names…?

Silly as I am I felt a horrible stab at the heart when I realized the great Yaphet Kotto died this March to little recognition… :frowning:

Yaphet Kotto: Tribute to ‘Alien,’ ‘Homicide’ Star by Alan Sepinwall - Rolling Stone

I really liked his style- and I’ll always remember how brilliantly he could go from “Mechanic” in Alien to “FBI Agent” in Midnight Run.

Rest in peace, King.

My unit on Op Banner discouraged us knowing each others names. Some we knew but as soldiers came from all Regiments and Corps many we did not. Its where my mudspike name came from.

Brannigan

Just an OK movie. This one and McQ did not do all that well at the box office for John. After these two disappointments he returned to the Western genre for his final two films.

Quirky movie, I never knew what to expect from it.

Continental Divide

Imo, an underrated gem.

@Victork2 It was fashion to carry an extra spoon, often outside the combat jacket. On ops it was not always practical to access webbing. A comment was made that I was always able to scoop up food in passing. I was very skinny back then and had to eat almost constantly to replenish calories burnt off by tabbing in full kit.

In 3-D: “Inferno” (Inferno (1953) - IMDb) from 1953.
A great Film-Noir too, with an excellent performance by Robert Ryan, in my opinion a rather underrated actor. Busty Rhonda Fleming is always a nice addition, especially in Technicolour movies; and her size (42B) in 3-D is an extra bonus…

Still impressed by the 3-D format by-the-way.

Soon : Bad Day at Black Rock", also with Robert Ryan.
