What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Looks like a good flick. I have problems watching Anna Kendrick though. For some reason my brain thinks she looks like that guy from Revenge of The Nerds…

No. I can’t explain it.

…are we talking about the same Anna Kendrick…?

It is not the blockbuster it was in 1959 but I still found it to be an enjoyable watch. Been a long time since my last viewing but the only reason I watched it again was that it was still the B&W version.

Watched a couple more old B&W movies.

The Night of the Hunter

Not sure how to describe this one, It is not a bad movie but it did not evoke the emotions I know it was trying to elicit. Had I seen it in the 1950’s, or even at a much younger age, it may have given me chills but the horrific tale it was portraying has been superseded by much more unimaginable things on your local nightly news.

Witness for the Prosecution

I am certain I have never seen the movie before tonight but I picked up on the unexpected twist as soon as it happened. Imo it is still a good movie but the overacting that was common of the era is on full display during the courtroom scenes.

Further reading of the Wiki article on Queen Elizabeth I linked in the text in the spoiler box shows my surmising was incorrect. I left my thoughts since it was something I noticed while watching the movie.

Summary

One possible mistake that makes perfect sense considering when the film was shot, 1956 to 1957 time frame, is the bailiff saying “God save the Queen” whenever the Judge entered the courtroom. Elizabeth did not take the throne until June 2, 1953 and the movie indicates the crime was committed in October 1952 and you are led to believe that the trial takes place within weeks of the crime. If this is correct the bailiff should have been saying “God save the King” as the Judge enters the courtroom.

Watched this one the other night before it left HBO. Brought back memories of my dad since he loved as a kid the novels of Rafael Sabatini.

Wow, I didn’t hear really great reviews but I liked it!
Not much in common with the book, admittedly BUT… hell, I like it!

Plus the final after-credit scene worth the ticket alone! :star_struck:

Haha! I missed the after-credit scene … thanks for reminding to watch it. :+1:

Cool movie.

Drive to survive is basically F1 porn in 4K LOL! I’m not a huge F1 fan but man that show is beautiful!

Wrath of Man

It has a rating of 7.5 on IMDb but I would give it a 2. I have seen too many revenge movies that were better done to give it a higher rating.

I thought the movie was quite disorganized and even ridiculous at times. It picked itself up towards the end, and yes, the end credit scene… Oh yes! Yes, please! :rainbow:

Truth to be told- Tom Clancy’s novels are hardly good movies.
The convoluted plots needs at least a mini-series to have the proper breath they deserve so I agree with you but at least I wasn’t surprised.

That’s when I start to get scared about the R.6 adaptation.

The whole thing cannot be crammed into 2 or ever 3 hours of a movie.
It needs to breath, it needs several one hour long episodes with the right writing.

Much of the greatness of the book comes from the pathos, the waiting of the action scenes.

Yes - BUT

An entire team of combat divers popping up from a Syrian village well still was a decision done by the film crew.

Maybe I am spoiled by recent productions that have become scarily realistic in all kind of details.

The flick was ok, I guess. Easy to forget about, too.

Not sure if you are agreeing with me or not but I thought it is exactly the sort of thing I’m saying.

Incredibly well executed scenes of absolutely improbable actions.
There’s a lot to say about the movie but I won’t spoil it.
Anymore than I did.
