Where Are You Photos [2022]

Some nights…you just decide to let the dragons win… I took one look at this forecast and turned it down…

Woke to this. Last grips of winter. Dogs loved it though

That is one dapper pair if I ever saw one!

Not gonna lie, feel very dapper

FWIW in Dutch, “dapper” means “brave”. But in English it means something like well-dressed to a tee, yeh?

I’m gon’ cut you up, takkezooi! (takkezooi is a dutch expression, means something like bloody mess, but takken literally translates as ‘branches’)

One of the guys took that one last week. We made a killing on that job  Thing had blown over in the storm and we rebuild it.

Very cool. Location? Almost looks like they took over some GA T hangars.

Beautiful work sir

We are finally getting some pretty good weather with the spring just around the corner, so I decided to make a loooong lunch break (without lunch, actually).

Clarity was fantastic and frames unlimited

Two of the three volcanic lakes near Daun in Germany. Some time ago I spent a week there with kids and friends and I can confirm that the water is dark blue and cold!

Note the runway close to the lake to the right. Landing on rwy 09 (lakeside) must feel like landing on an aircraft career. There are no wires though. I would love to visit that field one day (by plane; I was there by car just to watch and chat) but the runway dimension of 425m x 15m might be a bit on the short side. Need to convert first to an ultralight, perhaps?

Nürburgring. In one curve far back in the picture, Niki Lauda nearly fataly crashed in 1976. Mind that one year later, in 1977, he was again a World Champion.

Koblenz. A nice little GA field with a good Greek restaurant (closed due to Covid). When back home I found out that I visited this airport for the first time within my PPL training in 2009.

This is also a nice example of a Luxembourg-registered American design on a German soil

Coming back home. The Mosel wine region extending below and disappearing in the mist towards Trier.

What a great day! I almost do not regret that while some of us actually get paid when they’re flying, I have to pay to get flying  I feel privileged nonetheless

Been wondering where these shots went to. All it takes [to find them] is for the kids visit - and the wife to start digging through the photo albums

Irony here: these are photos, taken on a smart phone, of scanned photos taken on a cheap disposable camera, before smart-phones were around. Don’t recall which flight so they could be 30-ish years ago.

The smiley face [I think] was the before shot, the other was crawling out after getting my brains [and body] over-G’d . Something the sim gamer likely doesn’t appreciate. :fearful:

Don’t recall the Viper model (other than the obvious: a “family model”).

Nice Jeff. What did you do to earn that?

Well, I had a few. When I was in the AF (early 80’s) I got one for some award (that escapes me now). The rest [after that] were just ‘begging’, and getting on a list (waiting sometimes several years).

Interestingly, 99% of us that were eligible never applied. Likely due to the physical nature of it - the puke stories. I didn’t care how many times I hurled, I put my name in the hat as often as I could.

Man, bringing back memories. My face still hurts from the smile the first Viper takeoff put on it. And we had 2 bags-o-gas and 2 Mav’s under the wings.

The BFM ride the G-warmup (actually they do/did that for every flight) was:

Driver: “Ok, here comes the G-warmup…pulllllinnnggg…okay that was 4.5…you doing okay back there?”.

Me, out loud: “Roger that”.
Me, thinking to myself, “Crap, that was 4.5!?..9’s gonna REALLY hurt”.
They say you get used to it. I’d hope so.

I never blacked out but the edges started creeping in for sure. Kinda like the FOV I get from my G2 headset? Only less saturated - gray out

KTYS. TacAir’s mil ramp. Thanks!

In a year with some challenges…and God knows I feel guilty for feeling that way…it was hard to beat a sunrise flight to Dulles…

Where I could show my Mom and Dad our new plane…and wallow in their pride of their aging son. I felt 10 again…showing them terribly drawn art from class. Mom brought homemade banana bread. Dad painfully walked up the stairs and stooped over into the cockpit…he couldn’t make it in and sit…but he was there. A wonderful afternoon. A welcome bright spot.
