It’s around, east, of Rinteln
My Grandparents lived in Rinteln after the war. My Grandma first in a refugee centre and then later, after my Grandpa fled the GDR in the mid 50ies and they got married, they lived on a farm in the Weser meadows before they moved to the Lower Rhine in the early 60ies. They showed me the farm where they lived and where my mom was born a couple of years before they died. It’s a beautiful part of Germany.
It really is, as I wrote- I’m really loving living in Germany!
Had a leak outside the house. Now I have blue markings and a nice man from Anglian water says a “dig team” will return inside 20 days
I love Germany as well. My parents immigrated to Canada from there. A little town we visited called Wildemann really sticks out …
When I was 14 I was quite the young geologist and my aunt took me up into the mineral rich hills to look for treasure. A little digging and I found a nice quartz crystal right off the get go! …
I was STOKED! My aunt seemed quite a savvy mineral hunter. She found a rock and said “watch this” in German. She broke it in half against another rock and the core was solid silver! I think we found a Geode as well. Rock hunter’s paradise man!
Moving into our new house means there’s a lot of boxes to unpack… Some haven’t been unpacked since we moved to the previous house, 13 years ago…!
To my delight, these items have been rediscovered in an old box. I got these in 2007 when Mrs. Microbiology worked at the University of Berlin. That city is packed with history, cafées, pubs and hobbyshops. Needless to say, I never experienced a dull moment when roaming around the city, while the ”frau” was at work. Seeing these items again brought back many happy memories. Although trying to explain their meaning to my 12 year old daughter was harder than I thought and I felt tears burning in my eyes as I told her about the cruelty of mankind that they represent…
I know exactly how you feel.
I worked a whole summer in Berlin in 1999 and I will forever hold those memories with me!
Took my family to Dollywood yesterday. Kind of a late birthday surprise for my daughter, who came up from Florida. Had a great day!
Traveling by bus from Lincoln hospital. Seems I will be appearing at Skegness.
NB got a clean bill of health
The floor guys finished over the weekend. Very happy with the results. The original small house has been added to in the 50s and 60s (and we had to replace some because of borer) so we have different native hardwoods in different rooms. I like the variety, it adds character and tells a story.
That is beautiful @Bearhedge. Absolutely stunning
