I visit Pittsburgh twice a year and share your sentiment. It’s a great city, that I enjoy. The people are friendly and lots to do.
Enjoy the game!
And when the people aren’t friendly, they’re kind.
Having spent so many years working with contractor types, there’s something about the whole city here that’s so comfortably familiar and genuine.
My dad went to college at Point Park, and he’s always had such great things to say about the city. I completely understand why now.
My wife’s family is all really, really, really ridiculously good looking.

I did some computer consulting work in Pittsburgh. They should change their name as any place starting with pitts just throws me off. Terrible sounding name but the place and people are the best! ![]()
Looks to fancy for the Burg. You should be camping out in Point Park drinking Iron City beer.
The church outside my station
Don’t train stations look pretty covered in snow
No they bloody don’t when you are the idiot with the snow shovel ![]()
Sunday - BIRDS!
Not the all super sharp, the feeder is on the tree on the front lawn and so if I opened the front door to avoid shooting through two panes mildly dirt glass, I would have scared them off. Some of the shots were taken when I was able to crack the door open a bit. Not an expert on birds, but comparing to species supposedly around the province we’ve got some Mourning Doves, House Sparrows and a potentially mating pair of Northern Cardinals.
Almost everybody is on the move!
I've been spotted!
I hope a raised wing isn’t the bird equivalent of flipping the bird.
VTOL
It wasn't just the birds flying....
Caution, birds on approach.
The Cardinal has landed.
Our first wave off - deck's not clear!
Cardinal Reports: "Did ya see that guy? No situational awareness!"
LSO Cardinal Says: WAVE OFF!
Shift's over, go home to the misses!
Second Shift
Don't forget the ground crew...
These guys were not part of the party up in the tree - there was that many visitors.
In every family photo there is that one person not paying attention to the camera....
Lovely shots. I especially dig the ones with the birdies landing. Our flying machines are so crude compared to the airy elegance of nature’s way of doing things.
Might’ve just thrown up in my mouth a little bit there- my introduction to IC Light was being VERY hung over at Primanti’s in the Strip District with one of their sandwiches in front of me. Though we did end up not far from Point Park when meeting up with friends after the Pens game- including one who’s been on Daniel Tiger (the spiritual successor show to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood).
Those pictures are seriously stunning- beautiful composition, and the snowy background is just wonderful!
I have been very anti-crop for some time but this time crop was my friend.
Nahhh, you crop as needed, no shame in that, especially with wildlife it’s often necessary. Today’s sensor resolutions give you plenty of detail to punch in anyway.
Of course if you can you should absolutely get the right composition in camera but there are plenty of situations where it might not be feasible.
Almost all my pictures of birds and some of my macros (even at 1.4x magnification) are crops btw. Of course now with the 100-500mm I don’t need to crop as much but there’s still a lot of situations where I want to crop. Small birds are small after all ![]()
Well, I am not used to 24MP on tap. Until my recent iPhones, it has been <10MP. I also wasn’t as careful younger to maintain aspect ratios on crop so the photo collection was a mashup of random ratios and resolutions after.
Much nicer to see a collection look uniform! ![]()
That’s why you stick to a single aspect ratio when editing a series of photos
Quick edit of one of my last shots, at Luke last Thursday. More to come.
RDAF bird for any Danes in the house.
My daughter lives in Phoenix. Another reason to visit!
