While each have that same cookie cutter template from afar, each boat has unique layouts and history.
Technically there were another 2 boats slated (and initial hulls were laid) for the Iowa Class (Illinois and Kentucky), but they were parted out and scrapped as WW2 came to a close.
We stopped there for the exact purpose that a friend who was with me wanted to test the long exposure mode on his Pixel7. Worked astonishingly well even without any sort of tripod. But yeah, the Mixnitz valley is full of these places.
For the last 3 years it’s been almost devoid of people save for the climbing community, because Bärenschützklamm is closed after a rock fall sadly claimed a fatality. They’ll reopen in the fall, which means the peace and quiet will be over and the valley will once again be overrun by tourists. It’s such a pristine place, unfortunately they completely overdo it with the mass tourism.
So after admiring all the great pictures in this thread, think I might be popping in here time to time for some photography advice if anyone has time to share.
Have a family member who has become a really great amateur nature photographer over the past couple of years. She upgraded her gear and kindly donated to me her old (but new and very fancy to me) camera (Canon EOS Rebel T7, with a regular and also a zoom lens).
Had some time to try it out, autofocus is making me a little nuts but think I’m slowly making progress.
Mainly going to try and capture local wildlife (birds mostly I bet) but felt I would be remiss if I didn’t start off by posting a couple of mudspike fan favorites.
Made what I’m guessing is a rookie mistake (one of many to come I’m sure) by bringing the zoom lens to the museum.
Thought there might be some planes flying so figured that’d be the way to go. Unfortunately there were none so spent most of the time backing up and bumping into people and exhibits trying to fit airplanes into frame!
Well it was only good manners for me to do the driving whem my wife was hired to do face painting for 29 Squadron, the Typhoon OCU. The nice people at 29 Squadron gave me a pass that let me roam anywhere that was not locked or cordoned off
, which became a display of the fastest on the airfield flying as slowly as it could, while 474 flew flat out.
After gatecrashing the Lancaster, Brighty the Typhoon display pilot put on reheat and finished the show with the bravura performance that won the “best display” at RIAT. It explained why he had been cheered as he walked out to his jet
Three. And two wonderfull burgers. 29 Sqn had their own enclosure just for their own families and yellow pass holders where drinks were dirt cheap, eg cold can of magners cider £1.00. They ran a fantastic bbq right through the day
