air show we took the pups to the field to make up to them. Zeus discovered he could jump into the flat tire and lie down in it. Previously he only crawled under the sloping tire. With the previous days rain the rim was full of water and the ground inside was very cooling mud
Seriously thinking I may need to rent a surfboard for the rest of the week. We’re right next to a lifeguard stand, and several of the lifeguards were surfing just off our deck a little while ago.
Missed this somehow - but it does explain the weird sounding jets I’ve heard flying over. Been too cloudy to see anything. I went up to the BBMF on Saturday but it was early (9am-ish) and nothing was happening.
Looks like a good event.
@Scoop - I wonder if you can help me out, seeing as you seem to be the man in the know regards Wadders.
Last week was walking the mutt and an aerobatic team flew over in formation, flying in that general direction (could have been Coningsby) and it was obvious they weren’t Hawks, and as I could only see the silhouettes I had to go off shape - and they looked like Alphajets, so I supposed they were the French Blue Parrots - but today at the bike meet I spotted a Hercules, which surprised me as we supposedly no longer have them.
One of the guys told me his mate told him (!) there were a load of Italian Hercules at Wadders who came visitng with their Frecce Tricolori - but he wasn’t 100%.
Know anything about either?
btw - I am absolutely pos that the aircraft I saw last week were deffo not MB-339s.
Problem is, I don’t know - can’t remember (privilege of age!). It will have been around noon as that’s when I take the dog - probably maybe 12:20 over Kirton. *edit- probably Tuesday 25th but not 100%
I did think they might be M346 (didn’t know about 345) but when I looked up the Italian squad I could only find the MB-339 and thought they were still using them.
I tried to find info on the 'net via Wadders and Red Arrows, Frecce Tricolori and Patrouille but found nothing recent enough - even the spotter sites didn’t report anything relevant for Waddington.
We saw the Herc yesterday evening around 19:00hrs roughly over Spalding/Holbeach flying south/southeast.
In the end, the instructor put up a show on his own and the whole group watched it with mouth opened Amazing what these skilled guys can do.
Though the star of the show was a girl in the group who was about 5 years old. She got it instantly and the freefall became her second nature in a heartbeat
EDIT: Just got reminded by a fellow aviator that since I was beyond a critical angle of attack, technically I was not flying. Falling / stalling perhaps.
I remember having a Revit instructor once who’s main hobby was skydiving. He said that one hour in one of those things was something like five or six jumps worth of practice time for stunts.
Unfortunately, my wife didn’t get any pictures of her laughing maniacally as we played in the surf, and she kept getting hit in the face but waves. Or begging me to keep taking her further out.
Nice boxman apollo01! Looking stable and more importantly, you have a big grin!
We started them on boogie boards, but my main goal was to raise them to enjoy, but respect the sea. So every time we go in the water, I have them tell me what they would do if they felt that they were being pulled out to sea. Then I have them show me which way the current is strongest and demonstrate the technique they would used to get back to the beach. Then they are free to go wild.
Our 10 year-old twins are now fearless and it’s hard to get them out of the water. I still keep an eye on them, but do so more at a distance. Every now and then, they test my surveillance by getting out way over their heads at the furthest breakers. It’s a good excuse for me to go for a swim. They’ve been playing on the beach since they could crawl, so the seeds have been thoroughly sewn.
