Sitting in my little cabin in Denmark, drinking local beer.

I used to laugh about people who always go to the same place for vacation, but I really like Rømø. This is the fifth time I spend my vacation here. It can be nice to go somewhere you know.

We rented a house in Vejers Strand, north of Rømø, in 2018. Best vacation I’ve had! We want to go back there!

Oberschleisheim flugplatz is a nice grass airfield north of Munich. It is now used for gliding and by the HQ of the Bavarian Police helicopter unit. The German national museum keeps its aircraft collection here. The museum is much smaller than Duxford being in two hangars and an old admin building. The Royal Bavarian Flying Corps was founded here in 1912. A new building was built for their HQ in that year, with the troops and aircraft in tents. In early 1918 an extention to the building and a hangar were built. It was expanded by the Nazis and thoroughly bombed in WW2 with the WW1 buildings surviving. These were at risk of demolition in recent times but were bought by the museum. The WW1 grass airfield and buildings are now preserved.
I was invited to a DCS pilots meeting and took an extra four days to explore the area. While there I visited Ingoldstadt for the Bavarian Army museum, Dachau concentration camp and a British war grave where many of my old army unit are buried after being murdered by the Gestapo. Some of the murdered members of the “Great Escape” are also interred there.

More Oberschleisheim museum

Ww1. The biplane is one I never heard of “The Otto”. Used by the Bavarians as their main aircraft 1914/15. I have a photo of a flying replica they are building. I will get to it eventually

The two engines in front of the CASA 111 - on the left is the double engine of the He 177. Known the the Germans as the Reichs lighter because of its tendency to burst into flames. The larger engine on the right, also a double engine was for the "Amerika bomber. This was intended to reach the east coast of America with a range of 14,000 miles with a full bomb load.

River, Scoop and Aardvark regreting we could not get the key for the Huey. All we needed was a battery and some AVTUR

F104

VTOL transport aircraft beyond the Huey. The entire wing rotated

Ingoldstadt WW1 museum contains many artifacts including von Richthofens guitar. The museum fill the enormous Reduit Tilly, a 19th centrury redan.

The first german machingun for aerial use

German air photo of the pyramids with an escorting aircraft in the photo. The area around the pyramids was a large troop training area

Von Richthofens guitar. He signed it. If you zoom in you can see the signature

I wont inflict 100s of WW1 pics on you. But the Reduit Tilly is the largest WW1 museum in Germany. The rest of the Bavarian armies history is on display in the ‘new castle’ built 1705, a short walk across a bridge into the town.

Fantastic!!! Thanks for Sharing.

Bruck in der Oberpfalz is where the dcs group ‘Tigermercs’ met. It is between Bruck and Nittenau to the south east of Nuremburg. Easily the most pleasant light aircraft site I have been to and the Tigemercs are a great bunch of guys. The Black Angels are a sub group that are dedicated to helicopters, I fly with them in the Huey. The owner has invested lots of cash into the airfield, even a swimming pool and a pilots chapel

The cafe serves snacks and light meals including traditional Bavarian dishes. It is excellent. I saw deer grazing on the far side at sunrise, I am told bears and wolves can also be seen

@grizzly who is a real life QHI, dcs mission builder and maker of many youtube dcs training videos for dcs helicopters. He taught me to fly Hueys over covid. Black Angels take training very seriously.

While away from home my wife has decorated inside our house. She waited till I was away as the paint fumes would aggrevate my lung injuries. She also bought new bedroom furniture. And the dog got painted accidentally. He is still white in places.

I have previously visited Auschwitz and Terezin. As Dachau was close to Oberschleisheim I decided to visit.

I have a policy of not taking internal photos or close ups in such sites. I made one exception for a memorial to one of the 27 British dead of Dachau. A very brave lady who had been parachuted into France as a radio operator with SOE. She was awarded the George Cross our highest decoration when not in combat or where the award of the Victoria Cross is merited but the award criteria are not met, eg witnessed by an officer.

I treated myself to a new astonomy camera, which arrived a couple of days ago. This is the ‘first light’ image taken with a ‘dual band’ filter this evening. The filter allows me to image even under full moon conditions. I chose M27 so that I could get a comparison with my previous image .

Previous image taken with my old camera…

This is a quick and dirty version. I will play with the image a little more tomorrow, but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Edit> another run at processing the image.

Last one, with some light sharpening using the Topaz Labs AI Sharpening app…
